2D/3D Overclocking!?

Post by -ASSASSIN- »

I read on the net recently that it is popular for people to UNDERCLOCK the 2D Graphics card clocks in order to achieve higher OVERCLOCKS in 3D Mode.

They claim 2D mode is useless and is just a source of unnecessery heat. What do you guys think? Have any of the overclocking "guru's" tried this yet???

If you OC you increase the speed eg. mhz
Your drivers and the app makes the 3d and 2d speed faster.

Yes, but the key is that with nvidia drivrs (dont know if this applies to ATI drivers), you can seperately underclock/overclock your 2D/3D memory and core clocks.

Yes but the only thing that increases when you OC 2d on the nvidia cards is the speed of video and pictures.

Thats not the point. I dont know how much experience you have had with overclocking 2D clocks in the past, but from my experience as well as others you dont get very far (few mhz over the stock and you get artifacts in windows). I dont know anyone that actually overclcoks their 2D clocks.

My question was regarding whether it helps to underclock your 2D clock speeds (hence reducing heat etc.), in order to get a higher 3D clock....

All the 3d cards have a 2d clock and a 3d clock.
But the 2d clock can be on 1mhz and it wont be cooler
