Ok, sheesh, those look ancient. The frequncy and amplicifcation probably determine the range. If you amplify the signal, you can probably boost the range. :? I'm no expert though :dontknow:

hahahahahahaha they not that old  but @ Prime that is right what you just said but my idea is to make some sort of amp like sound amps but have the ANT wire runing into a Transformer with a 9V BAT but does someone realy know how i can do it

You need a signal amplifier. I don't think an audio amp will work at those sorts of frequencies. I have a book on building FM transmitters, i'll see if there is a suitable amp in it

A transformer won't affect the power, if anything you will have major problems because you are changing the length of the antenna. you'll get inductive and resistive losses. Inductive losses go up with frequency.

I just want to ask, why? You can buy a pair of 10-12 mile compact radios for like R500-R700.

I had considered asking that myself but its the same with modding. You could buy an awesome computer case for a few grand or Mod one and it will probably cost you more.

No, this isn't the same. A nicely modded case is usable, these bricks, are not.

The first and probably the easiest way to get better range is to give those radios a better gain antenna. Look for a company called Webb industries, they should be able to help you out. Only other thing you could do is connect a RF Power amp to the output stage with a greater output than what you already have but then limiting the input to that amp with a set of attenuators so you don't blow the input stage <- very expensive...

There are cheaper places then Webb Industries, but yest they could do it.

Seriously though, the amount of money you will spend for that negates the purpose completely. May as well get a decent set of CB radios and study up on Ionospheric deflections if you want real range..

Actually....yes, as far as I know you do...because you have to have a call sign so that you can be identified.

Still, not too difficult to get one...hell I could even give you one to use ;)
