if you´re a Linux desktop user TransGaming Tech´s WineX is a necessity for you if you want to have a cross-platform compatiblity with your Win games. as to your query into whether its worth going from Win XP to Linux + WineX the answer is - not yet. why? firstly to get the prepackaged files you have to be a subscriber for a min. of 3 mons. @ $5/mon., you shld meet certain software/hardware requirements, not all Win games are supported and there is still a couple of glitches to be fix. better still is to wait for further developments.

WINE X Has become more viable since it has started. It support most of the popular games avialable. Keep in mind that you do not need WINE X for every thing. Some games like UT 2003 come with a linux port already on the CD and you can download port for other games on the web. You can also have a look a Loki ... they have license from people like EA to port games to linux, they are not multi platform, but if you have linux running and want to get some new games, they are a good place to start.

Linux may not be as well equipped at windows for games, but it is slowly, but surely getting there.

*thread revival, could not find a better one for my issue*

Ok, I Finally got tired of having to switch between Linux and Windows for the once in a while I feel the urge to shoot at someone in CS.
I went through the effort of figuring out WINE and I got the game installed. PS. I am using Ubuntu UE 1.7 ( based on Ubuntu 7.10 and the CS I am trying to install is version 1.6).
so i have a couple of issues.
1: First of there is the Flickering, and as far as I can see that is a ATI issue, had the same flickering with videos , but sorted that out. If anyone knows of a way of getting rid of the flickering let me know.
2:I cannot read a THING, How do I get the text to be visible, luckily i kinda know what all the buttons do, so I don't need to read, but I would like to
3: There was a issue when I started the game, but I am sure it can be fixed cuz I RTFS, and it said something about downloading something for mozilla, html engine or something. but I was tired by that time.

That is it for now..
Any help ??

This thread is 5 years old.

Irritated - please could you stop resurrecting threads like this dude. Start a new one or post in one that isn't 5 kajillion years old.

I wish I did. But I don't have the necessary qualifications. (jailtime etc.)

Seriously, I have no idea how to counter the flickering you are getting.

Like hman, i unfortunately don't have a criminal record or any charges against my name, so i don't have the prerequisites to work for the government.

Like i said, either post your queries in a recent thread regarding the problem or start a new one. There's no point in resurrecting 5 year old threads every day.
