realising that you wont match solo's score even with the above rig at your disposal until you do know half as much as him or some of the other 3dmarkers in this country = priceless
Stop stop you are making me blush n******. Obviously those prices you gave were RETAIL. I never paid anywhere near those prices plus the seal string was included in the case LOL.
Also forgot the Black Ice Xtreme Radiator and two 120x38 mm Sunon fans.
LOL yeah solo - i know you didnt pay retail - but almost most anyone else who attempts this stuff isnt gonna get the prices we will get (nudge nudge ....wink....wink) LOL
also my bad about forgetting the radiator - and fans - add in a grand into the total you get above (anybody interested in high 3d marks)
yeah gav - id believe you when you say a "couple of days" - in fact im counting on it man ......... way to go there - im sure solo and beanie are not going to sit still either nor andy so as someone said up above interesting times ahead at PM and SA
Changed the settings, and am now getting
3DMark 2001SE = 11157
n00b mentioned that because I've for 2 512 MB sticks that it could be slowing the system down because the A64 don't work well with the size (512 MB).
that can't change unless I get 2 1G sticks - I'd imagine that would just make it worse though.
Going to haveto get a new Graphics card soon anyway.
Maybe hit the workshop and build some cooling as well.
anyway on my current setup there obviously seems to be something wrong, so will go through the usual updates, XP tweeks and then see how things are going.
does anyone know what score I should be getting for this machine?

This gives me 24 472 3dMark 2001, and 8 129 3dMark 3003, and 56 072 Aquamark3 scores....so, quite expensive considering you stand the chance to muck up your hardware.
To get to Solo's 26k score in 3dMark2001, I need to voltmod my gfx card, as his AMD64 3400+ at 2.635 gig is just a bit more powerful than my non EE P4 3.2 at 4.08 gig. So, I probably need to get around 550 gpu/440 mem on my 9800XT to get to his 2001 score.......quite tough, but do-able, at a price of course.
We are the same in 3dMark 2003, Solo being 8 133, myself 8 129, so 4 points difference, but, my more powerfull 9800XT cushions the effect of his more powerfull AMD chip with 9800Pro gfx card.
So, for anyone just going out, spending R30 k and think you are going to beat these scores, it is hard work....trust me. You need very good electronic skills to do the volt-mods, you need to know how to solder, use a Multimeter, and even posess something like my fluke 887, even an oscilloscope would be a big advantage.
Last, but not least, you must be willing to sacrifice your brandnew cpu/mob/gfx card, R10k down the tubes if you muck up.....so, see why I say it is hard work.
But, we love it, it is fun, and nice to show you we in South Africa is capable of producing the goods.
Br,
MrBean.
ps:Pricing above reflects today's pricing, with a little mark-up....I paid at least another R2000- more for everything a couple months back.

The AMD Athlon 64 has a integrated Memory Controller, meaning that the Northbridge doesn't have to control the RAM anymore. It's a pity the Sledgehammer (FX-51) only has a DDR Dual Channel controller. The Clawhammer does not have a Dual Channel controller
Thats true soap, but a modestly overclocked 3400 will put away an fx-51 in most benchmarks anyway, single controller or not. Fx-53 will be harder work to beat, but the same formula applies. Anyone know why this is so? Is there a bottleneck for the fx series somewhere? They are better, but not as much as most would expect.

Just want to say that ypu payed way to much for that video card of yours, MrBean. Is it an exceptional card or what. I can get a "Sapphire AIW 9800XT 128MB" for under R3000, and I think the standard "Sapphire Radeon X800" for R4000. Where did you get your hardware from anyway?
I wish I had your guys skill..
yesterday I overclocked my Saphire 9800Pro, using RadLinker.
I first tried pushing the clock speeds up to what HardOCP said it would go to using stovck cooling, but then there were serious errors happening in 3DMark2003 (point and polygon artifacts).
So I reduced the clock to its default setting and pushed them up a step at a time untill the errors appeared.
I got around 6200 in 3D Mark 03
and about 19500 in 3D Mark 01SE
and 45000 in Aquamark
Was happy.
Turned on UT2004 and played for about 20 minutes and then its slowed down HECTIC, so I figured my VPU overheated.
Could some of you oc freaks give me some advice on some stable oc setting for my system.

Mmmm.....I bought this card when 9800XT was just introduced in the country. Your post is a little late
