If you want a double comparisson then here is the Asus version of a power calculator.

Man, that's a big problem you got there. You should start chasing the exact voltage on that.Stelliopis wrote:I am running a 450w Peak PSU.... but this thingie says I need 499w. How serious is a 50w shortage?

Coming from a dead AOpen 700w what's the PSU to get in the 700w-850w range now? I see the same AOpen is expected in a few days time so do I wait for that (not that I mind, this one lasted me a few years) or are there better alternatives? Not paid attention to pc hardware for a long time hence I need some suggestions. Looked at a few like Cooler Master but they don't have power buttons and I kinda like my power button, my desk covers the wall socket and it's handy to have for power outages. I'll make a 2k stretch if needs be but I want to know it's a decent purshase before I do and seeing my personal system is dead in the water I do not have time to look up reviews whilst at work so help me out please.

Awesome PSU. Own one myself. Super quiet and has the power button at the back that you like so much
Bazik recommended it to me, so I am passing on the torch.

Re:
I would go for the corsair 750w. One 12v rail with 60A. It also includes 4 8pin pci express connectors. Only downside is its not modular. If my 700 aopen were to go I would go for this one. Its also well priced R1600. http://www.landmarkpc.co.za/store/corsa ... -1451.htmlRayne wrote:Coming from a dead AOpen 700w what's the PSU to get in the 700w-850w range now? Re: Power Consumption Calculator
That's quite alot of AMPs for a 12v. Actually that's double a moderately decent PSUs most powerful 12v.

Re: Power Consumption Calculator
Most other psu's spread the amps over mutiple 12v rails. For instance the aopen 700watt uses 4 12v rails.Frozenfireside wrote:That's quite alot of AMPs for a 12v. Actually that's double a moderately decent PSUs most powerful 12v.
PC power and cooling also has a 60 amps 12v rail.
Another one to look at Rayne is the pc power and cooling Silencer 750 Quad. http://www.landmarkpc.co.za/store/power ... -2103.html
That one and corsair are the best options imho.

Re: Power Consumption Calculator
Just booted a new build with the Corsair TX750. Shot for the heads-up, it's an awesome PSU. Long cabling, very decent sleeving and very, very quiet, much quieter than my old AOpen. Sweet bag it came in too.
Re: Power Consumption Calculator
^ Also got me a Corsair TX750 with the single mother of a 12V rail. Awesome PSU.
This article caught my attention:
http://www.anandtech.com/casecoolingpsu ... i=3413&p=1
It's about debunking myths about power supplies. You don't need as much power as you think, configuration is key! That's why I love my single rail supplies, they can supply anything with the right amount of power. Multi rail PSU's are wasted unless they are properly configured. You get cleaner power but I still rate single rails are better.

Re: Power Consumption Calculator
Hey ppl. I need your help. I have a pc at home which I am keeping away from the minefield of the internet. So, my problem is that I want to upgrade my PC but I am not sure if it will be able to handle the upgrade. Currently my pc consists of a MSI K9A2 Platinum V2 Motherboard, 500GB SATA HDD, 4GB DDR II 800 RAM, 500W PSU and a AMD Phenom II X4 945 3GHz. I want to upgrade my graphics card. My current card is a 512 MB ATI 1090. So, here's the question: Can I upgrade to a ATI Radeon HD 4890 using this PSU and setup?
Re: Power Consumption Calculator
AFAIK, the base components of the AOpen 700W and, if I remember correctly, the Corsair models are made by the same company, which means the AOpen 700W and up models are good quality. I did a bit of research when I bought my AOpen 700W non-modular secondhand, for R200. Anyway, the point is that you could save a bit of money by going for the AOpen without sacrificing quality. Oh, and it does come with a switch.

Yes but the Corsair will let you pull far more amps on the 12V rail. Those corsairs are insane, I have just ordered one

Re: Power Consumption Calculator
a bit late, but yes, provided your PSU is good quality I see no problem. Seems you've upgraded already.MadFrog wrote:Hey ppl. I need your help. Re: Power Consumption Calculator
The TX is dead.
My prior VGA died. Replaced that with a GTX 260. PC ran fine for two days straight until it's first spontanious shutdown (hard). After that it did not power on. Left cables unplugged for a while and then it powered on fine. Ran for a few hours and shutdown again (hard). Did same and got it to run again but just as I got into the OS to do a disc check and power down it shutdown again (hard). Now regardless what I do I cannot get it to boot at all.
Funny thing though - mobo LED's power on - ?
Yes, it reaks of a burning smell.
You telling me this thing could not handle a 260/3x HDD's/2x writers/4x fans? There were no power dips and I was present during all shutdowns.
What be the reason? And could this be the cause of the prior VGA's death too?
