Can't open anything
If I try to open anything (exe, txt, doc .....) a small dos window opens and closes again, then there after nothing else happens except the system takes about 30 sec to open My Computer. This problem still occurs even when I formatted and want to open my backup files. Is it a virus a worm or what, this is driving me off the edge ![Evil or Very Mad ](./images/smilies/icon_evil.gif)

Thats not sounding good. Have you installed any hardware recently maby the drivers for it are causing the problems I don'y know if this is a virus or what but I would try thisThis problem still occurs even when I formatted and want to open my backup files.
I lernt something new today I think tjis is only on windows 98Se
if you registery becoms corupt you can boot into dos and type
Scanreg/restore
or
scanreg/fix
if this don't work the I would try to
scan you PC for viruses if it finds nothing then:
reset your bios the fail safe settings
format and reinstall windows (wich ver btw I guessing windows XP)
reset your bios to optimised defults or whatever
scan you backup disks for viruses
intall only the drivers needed the basic needs eg: mobo graphics sound and if the problem is still there then I don't know

Strange problem, never heard of that happening before.
So no errors either you say right?
My bet would be a virus, it is possible that your backups were infected too and then when you reinstalled the virus was back.
Unless you had an old backup on disc or something and it still did that, if thats the case then I'm really not sure.
Have you got a firewall and AV package installed?
