I have a better suggestion: how about we ban Stuart every time someone resurrects this threadAnakha56 wrote:I have a suggestion for the forums and its a biggie to code for Ron...

Anyone who resurrects this thread gets banned, anyone else agree with it?
/Luis is a U.K. forumite he used to visit here but very, very rarely...

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
How about a forum or a sub-forum for people asking about putting together a new rig?
Something like a hardware builders forum or hardware upgrading forum or something to that effect?
That way we can keep the actual "hardware" forum clean from all the upgrading threads, so it can be focused primarily on new hardware, maybe reviews on new hardware etc...
It would also allow people who want help upgrading their systems to have a central place to get more info - like what others are planning for their upgrades...

A post saying that the sidebar is in the progress of being reinstated should under all circumstances be considered to be an April fools joke no matter what time of the year it is made.Tribble wrote:Ah but I believe he as seen the benefit of the sidebar

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
You do know that you are the one making me spam this thread hey! I am happy that I can post again - not as easy on the BB as one would think.
Ronny - an idea here. How about having a special mobile page that is easier to access. This having to scroll up and down all the time is driving me batty. And perhaps some customisable settings?

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Good suggestion - but no. Never underestimate the lack of intelligence of lusers; all I'd be doing is a) giving them a chance to post stuff in the wrong forum, and b) segmenting the hardware section, which I don't think is a good thing as it would probably end up with even less activity than it has now.ADV4NCED wrote:How about a forum or a sub-forum for people asking about putting together a new rig?

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
ever considered setting up an IRC server for members to interact?
the downside to that is it might reduce activity when it comes to posting on forums, but it would improve communication among members old and new
any how it is just a thought

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Tried many times by forum users, failed all times. There's a general lack of IRC interest within this community (with a few exceptions that I know of).

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
And is the jury still out on a mobile version of the forums for BB / iPhone / Android users?

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Still out. I don't have reliable internet at home (recently moved, and Telkom is being their typical useless selves), so will be a while before I can give that one the attention that it deserves.

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Cool, just a thought, have no idea about the implementation, but rather than having a mobile version of the forums, an application such as the Blackberry Facebook or Twitter apps which access the website data and present it in a format better for a mobile device would be great.

Doesn't Opera Mini work well enough? You can set to mobile view IIRC.Jonboy wrote:Cool, just a thought, have no idea about the implementation, but rather than having a mobile version of the forums, an application such as the Blackberry Facebook or Twitter apps which access the website data and present it in a format better for a mobile device would be great.

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Good lawd - I'd have to develop for PCF full time to not only create those apps, but also maintain them, particularly when you consider that you'd have to have separate code bases for Blackberry, Symbian, Android, iPhail, Windows Mobile, yadda yadda. Don't forget that looking after the technical details of this forum is something that I do on the side.Jonboy wrote:Cool, just a thought, have no idea about the implementation, but rather than having a mobile version of the forums, an application such as the Blackberry Facebook or Twitter apps which access the website data and present it in a format better for a mobile device would be great.
As KALSTER said - just use Opera Mini, you'll get the same effect.

Re: Forum Suggestions and Requests
Seriously, though. I can't tell you how often I want to pop into the forums and see what's up, but end up not doing it because I have to do so by visiting a site built for a desktop browser on my phone
