About few months ago I deleted a bunch of people off FB in a drunken stupor... glad no-one came after me.
Best part is when I sobered up I realised that almost all of them were people I still wanted to stay in contact with and added most of them back, so if you received a friend request from me recently even tho we've been friends for ages on FB you know why

I don't think it is only the tongue that gets drunk somehow. The connection to the brain is lost.
Are you saying that we are more true to who we are when drunk? Scary thought that.
I have this "friend" on FB who "complains" and moans the whole time. If she wasn't such a great model to shoot - I would dump her in an instant! Come to think of it - probably only about 25% of the "friends" on my list can actually be considered friends.

Re: The Facebook Features (and Other News) Thread
I currently have 460 friends. 25% would be 112.5 friends. I think that is a little high. Yes - by friend I mean someone I would actually phone and chat to. I have so many models and photographers on my list. I know them but would not consider them good friends.

Err... I have about 5 of those, I think. Ok, I lie. A bit more.
I know a lot of people, but those I consider friends are not so many.

Remember kids privacy is a fad...How 17 High School Students’ Facebook Pictures Ended Up on a Child Porn Site
And this is why you don't share your Facebook photos publicly. Unless of course you want them to turn up on the Internet's seedy underbelly.
Seventeen high school girls—some as young as 14 years—from the Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical School in Massachusetts have reportedly had their Facebook profile pictures and other personal information—including names, ages, and school info—lifted from their FB pages and posted on an Eastern European child porn website.
School officials were initially alerted to the problem back in January. The FBI has since launched an investigation though the agency isn't entirely sure what can be done. The website has apparently been shut down at least once in the past and is hosted in Ohio. Its servers, however, are located somewhere in Europe, which means that it's out of the jurisdiction of a domestic investigation.
"Three things in life used to be permanent: life, death, and taxes." said Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, "Now it's life, death, taxes, and any image that you put on the internet." Now would be a good time to increase your Facebook Privacy settings to maximum.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

Beware: Facebook users don’t say “Book”
Facebook updating its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, preventing you from saying “book” when logged in
Facebook has recently revised its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, which if approved will prevent users logged in to the site from using the word “Book”.
The revisions still need to be approved, but are they only slightly different to the current statement, which reads, “You will not use our copyrights or trademarks (including Facebook, the Facebook and F Logos, FB, Face, Poke, Wall and 32665), or any confusingly similar marks, without our written permission.”
The revisions now include the word ‘book’, and removed “32665”, the number Facebook users text to update their online profile.
Facebook currently has 73 active trademarks according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. These include: “F,” “Face,” “FB,” “Wall,” “Facepile,” and “Friendfeed.”

Re: The Facebook Features (and Other News) Thread
Facebook is now buying Instagram for approximately $1 billion. Quoting Mark Zuckerberg:
... in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook. That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people. We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.

Re: The Facebook Features (and Other News) Thread
Facebook on Monday filed an amendment to its S-1 documents originally submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on February 1.
With its IPO date reportedly set for May 17, the social networking giant has published new stats that reflect growth and revenue over the last fiscal quarter, which ended on March 31. In addition, Facebook recently announced plans to acquire photo-sharing app Instagram and to purchase a large number of AOL patents from Microsoft.
Here are some key stats from the amendment:
(As pointed out by TechCrunch, the total value of Facebook's Instagram deal -- cash and shares included -- totals $1,010,470,000.)
- Monthly active users now total 901 million (up from 680 million a year ago).
- Daily active users are up to 526 million (up from 372 million last year).
- Monthly mobile users now total 488 million.
- 300 million photos are uploaded to the site each day.
- 3.2 billion Likes and Comments are posted daily.
- 125 billion friendships are forged per day.
- Facebook will pay $300 million in cash, plus 23 million shares of common stock for photo-sharing app Instagram.
- If the Instagram deal falls through, Facebook will pay $200 million.
- Revenue for the first quarter of 2012 was $1.058 billion, up from $731 last year.
- Net income dropped to $205 million for the quarter, down from $233 last year.
The company also added some new risk factors to its S-1, including one outlining the inherent risks of Facebook's ongoing patent battle with Yahoo.
From the filing:
Facebook expects to raise $5 billion in its IPO, which may value the company at close to $100 billion. The company will trade on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol "FB."[O]n March 12, 2012, Yahoo filed a lawsuit against us in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that alleges that a number of our products infringe the claims of ten of Yahoo’s patents that Yahoo claims relate to “advertising,” “social networking,” “privacy,” “customization,” and “messaging.” Yahoo is seeking unspecified damages, a damage multiplier for alleged willful infringement, and an injunction. We intend to vigorously defend this lawsuit, and on April 3, 2012, we filed our answer with respect to this complaint and asserted counterclaims that Yahoo’s products infringe ten of our patents. This litigation is still in its early stages and the final outcome, including our liability, if any, with respect to Yahoo’s claims, is uncertain. If an unfavorable outcome were to occur in this litigation, the impact could be material to our business, financial condition, or results of operations.
The company now employs 3,539 people full time, according to its S-1 amendment.
