best value 775 chip ?

Post by Sojourn »

I'm upgrading my wife's pc with bits here and there, she got a 775 mobo.
I only have about R800 to spend and for some reason all the online reseller sites are blocked at the office.
Post the reseller's website too plx.

Help with best value, or if I have to push R200 extra, which procc would be good today?
She's got an entry level dual core at the moment.

The cheapest Quad core is the Q8200 for around R1300 AFAIK _Landmark. A good idea might be to get one second hand from this forum's for sale section, or at http://www.carbonite.co.za or http://www.systemshock.co.za/forums/? Then, if you can spare the bit of extra cash, get a cheapish cooler like a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 and OC it to 3GHz or so.

Sadly it looks like non of the core 2 duo or quads made it to under R1k.

Why where you banned anyway?

haha
I stood up to a person in a sport thread when this person were slandering a post I made, which wasn't even directed at them. Flames ensued from both sides, but only I got banned (for 3 months), because I don't have the other person's connections with certain admins / mods.

Slight correction - flames ensured from one side, and said flamer was swiftly dealt with.

And that is the last time I'm discussing that issue.

Hehe

Well as to the current issue you wont find a new cpu. Your only option is to go and look at 2nd hand stuff.

If you want I could let go of my Core 2 Duo.

It's not as fast as a quad but I still play games with it.

cool...
The current pc is working fine tbh.
She doesn't game, it mostly for budget / banking / lil'e-mail and some facebook.

I'd rather keep the money and do a total replace at a later stage.

Ron, that (and this) is my last public comment about that too.
I stand with what I said in PM.
