Dot_Net_Phenom, welcome to the forums. Pleas take the time to go read the forum rules if you have not done so already.
VB.Net, C# and J# is basically the same language so you might as well just say .NOT. The rest of the stuff is quite interesting though.

Re: So Who is a Programmer On The Forum?
Have started putting those quiet times at work to good use trying to learn Python.
It is the least cryptic and intimidating language I have come across so far.
I am taking a while to get to grips with loops but I think I'll get there...eventually.
Thank you to Ron2k for pointing me in the direction of this language.

Re: So Who is a Programmer On The Forum?
I recently started working as an intern for a Belgian web development company programming in asp.net and c#, but boy, there's still a lot to learn...
Re: So Who is a Programmer On The Forum?
I've been programming for +-4 years now.
C#, VB.net, asp.net, SQL. Java, but I'm not fond of it. I do legacy maintenance on VB6 code, too.
Been focusing on Windows Apps the past year or so, before that, it was web dev.
Not sure whether HTML (and the likes) can be classed as a programming language tho

Android apps are really fun developing... Did one in like 2 hours that did what we sat a month doing on BlackBerry.

Who is we? Is it the class that you are attending?
What do you use? My setup will be Eclipse with the SDK and the emulator. Did you test on a phone as well? I won't be getting an Android phone so I'll be using the emulator exclusively.

Actually deployed on a couple of devices in the office and on of them a HTC another my SE X10. Looks exactly the same as in the emulator.SoulBlade wrote:Who is we? Is it the class that you are attending?

To answer your first question, me and the other developers in our office
To answer your second question, No.
To answer your third question, Exactly what you are planning on using. IMHO the best you can use. It is possible to go the NetBeans route with it if you really want to.
Actually development on them is very different. on BB you have to do the whole MIDLET thing. On Android you work within a framework I can best describe as a portal environment. Work just 100x faster but you still have the control if you want/need it. Also on BB it is a RIMLET as they have their own API and to be hones it is like coding to try and predict which way water is going to run through a sponge. You can use standard Java libraries but the results are horrendous. Android is just so much more refined and what you see in the emulator is actually what you get on screen. Also we have issues with the display on BB between various minor versions of the OS on the Curve 9300 which we just deployed to. Got 130 devices from Vodacom with about 8 different versions of the OS on them.rustypup wrote:Engrish. Not exactly sure what you mean by what I'm planning on using. It'll be Ecplise (latest version) latest Android SDK and AVD Manager. Out of interest, what sort of apps did you deploy for work?RuadRauFlessa wrote:Actually deployed on a couple of devices in the office and on of them a HTC another my SE X10. Well it is an app that connects through XML Web Services to an Incident Management System for use by our field technicians. And yes what you mentioned is exactly what I used.

Re: So Who is a Programmer On The Forum?
Hmm, I see I'm still listed as a Delphi programmer. Haven't done Delphi in ages.
My current expertise:
C#, ASP.NET, SQL (includes MySQL), HTML, some PHP, some Javascript, Matlab, SAS.
I've done some Delphi, C/C++, Python, VB, Pascal, QBasic, but those were either very long ago or I didn't study them sufficiently to say I'm a programmer of those languages.
EDIT: Ooh I forgot, I can do LaTeX too. Though it's more of a markup language like HTML.
