Google Chrome OS - Out in the next week?!
So, word on the interweb is that Google's Chrome OS will be appearing in the next WEEK!
I'm excited to see what Google's got in store for us.
I actually stumbled across the beta a few minutes ago, so I'm busy downloading that now. If anyone else is keen, get it here.
Any opinions on the idea of a Google OS?

Re: Google Chrome OS - Out in the next week?!
Thanks
I downloaded the ISO last night, thinking I could use it on a VirtualBox machine Bad idea. I guess I should've downloaded the one that was there specifically for that use.
I'll install this on another HDD later...

Aha! I'll see if I have cap left at the end of the month to download it (hopefully the full version). So far Android has impressed me quite a bit, and I think GoogleOS on my EEE will be just perfect.
Let us know how you find it when you do install it!

Might I impose on you to bring me a copy to the meet on the 21st?

Re: Google Chrome OS - Out in the next week?!
EDIT: You guys know that .iso is a fake right? That's not created or related to Google in any way - it's simply an avid fan's custom build of what he invisioned Chrome OS to be like - essentially SUSE with a pretty boot-up screen and Chromium installed by default.
I'm really interested to see what Google has come up with, because a lot of bloggers / websites have reported Google saying it's going to change the way we look at the PC forever.
I'm skeptical, because the same thing was said about Chrome, which although brilliant and ingenious didn't really *change* the way we browse.
I'm just excited because
1. It's Google (implying high-quality, stable, polished)
2. It's Linux
3. It's Free
4. It's Google.
Chrome OS is not related to Google. Service provided by SUSE Studio. See the license.

It's on one of those "Create a website" Google websites.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:Huh?! Why is it on Google's site then? Man... that's a bummer....
Which immediately raises suspicion, because Google would probably use ChromeOS.google.com, not a Sites.google.com sub-domain, which is a free service.

Looks like Google is releasing a Alpha / Beta version of ChromeOS next week after all. I can't see why they'd wait months before shutting this guy downWiK1d wrote:Haha!Site Disabled

Will do. I'm on a 384K line, so speeds are bad, but I'll probably have it downloaded and installed in about 2 hours

Re: Google Chrome OS - Out in the next week?!
Hmmm. I'm having a bit of a hard time on the OS. I don't use a regular "@gmail" email address. I have my own domain with Google Apps installed on it. I can get mail and calendar working, sort of, but I can't access the menu at all. I can't even get in there with my old Gmail account

How is the UI otherwise though bud? Compared to the likes of Ubuntu NBR, Windows 7 etc...
I must say, I'm looking at this as a possible install for my Netbook, but I'm not sure, because 7 is running fantastically so far...

Re: Google Chrome OS - Out in the next week?!
It just looks like Chrome. Seriously, open up Chrome and maximize the window. It looks exactly like that. It's got some sort of "start menu" on the top left which I can't access, and it's got a system tray along the top right. Other than that, it looks like Google Chrome (browser).

I never believed it from the start. I should've had a <sarcasm> warning </sarcasm>
