Ubuntu 10.04
Ubuntu 10.04
So the release is next month, and I thought I would create a thread in the meantime. This sounds like it's going to be a good release, especially for notebook, netbook and iPhone owners, as support for all has increased quite a bit...

Re: Ubuntu 10.04

Re: Ubuntu 10.04
It's annoying for me that the Minimize, Maximiza, and Close buttons are on the left now. I'll never get used to that.
Anyway, I'll definitely give it a go. I honestly can't imagine leaving Win 7 for it, I just love Win7 too much, but who knows

Yeah, I must say it's starting to look very much like Mac OS regarding the top bar and maximise, minimise, close buttons...DAE_JA_VOO wrote:It's annoying for me that the Minimize, Maximiza, and Close buttons are on the left now. I'll never get used to that.
rusty: Oh yeah, I guess being an LTS it's a pretty significant release...
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
tell me more about what is, in it for iPhone owners??
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
Support, out of the box... It was a mission before!Fish_man wrote:tell me more about what is, in it for iPhone owners??
Confirmed: Ubuntu 10.04 Supports iPhone / iPod Touch Out Of The Box
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
I've been using it since early Alpha, and this release is really going to ROCK!
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
I read in a review (cant remember which one though) that you can change this.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:It's annoying for me that the Minimize, Maximiza, and Close buttons are on the left now. I'll never get used to that.

You can! I've done it already.AlphA wrote:I read in a review (cant remember which one though) that you can change this.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:It's annoying for me that the Minimize, Maximiza, and Close buttons are on the left now. I'll never get used to that.
Anyway, I installed 10.04 beta 2 this weekend. I haven't used it much yet, because I need an Autohotkey alternative before I put any effort into Ubuntu. Autohotkey has become an application that I literally can't be without at a PC. Seriously, it's become an integral part of how I use a computer. So I found one called Autokey, but I'm still figuring that one out.

Re: Ubuntu 10.04
i have had the Beta2 on my lappy for two weeks odd. Looks pretty nifty. Came across an odd bug - intermittent issue of mute being activate after rebooting...very irritating.
The one feature i wish they had incorporated into the current gnome is the ability to minimise both the the mail and IM clients to the tray... seriously, how hard is that to do.
Otherwise, i am liking this build. Iphone support is pretty nifty to have.

Re: Ubuntu 10.04
Does anybody knows how long it takes for a new release of Ubuntu to be re-packaged into Ubuntu Extreme? I am currently using UE 2.4, as was supplied on the PCF cover disk a while ago, and would really like to use Ubuntu 10 when it is released, but I like the looks of UE!

Hehe, I'm not a fanboi of anything I say! I run Windows, Linux and Mac OS...doo_much wrote:Fanboi!

Install is done, and it was probably the fastest OS install I've ever had! Now the tinkering begins...
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
I'm quite eager to hear rusty's thoughts on this latest version...
Re: Ubuntu 10.04
Has anybody also encountered the error that makes it impossible to boot into other OSes?
After updating my Ubuntu Extreme to 10.4 last night, I received an error message about a grub setting not found! I could not get into Windows. After a lot of struggling, I repaired my MBR so that Win7 (my main working environment, by force not by choice) boots. I now found a report about booting problems with Ubuntu 10.4, see http://www.hardocp.com/news/2010/04/30/ ... major_bug/. I am just wondering if it is worth the trouble to try and tweak EasyBCD to boot BOTH Win7 and Ubuntu if such an error is around?

A lot of small changes / additions that make this an awesome release. Couldn't have been a better LTS version.
Loving it on both my rig and on my EEE.

so, the same issue presented from 9.04 - 9.10 upgrades....Mykhal wrote:After updating my Ubuntu Extreme to 10.4 last night, I received an error message about a grub setting not found!
a fresh install doesn't suffer from this...
did you opt to retain the local menu.lst or the maintainer's version on upgrade?
shamefully, i haven't grabbed this yet...

Re: Ubuntu 10.04
corrected last night .... (<8 second boot time on the 64bit kit)... definitely reinvigorated the test machine, (which is getting on in pc years).rustypup wrote:shamefully, i haven't grabbed this yet...
only niggle spotted thus far was it flushed the compiz plugins-extra package... easy solve...
will only really play with it over the weekend, but i would advise anyone rushing in to revert to ext3 on the file system.... ext4 hasn't found its legs yet.....

Re: Ubuntu 10.04
10.10 - maverick meerkat released yesterday... no great shakes, some interesting tweaks... not enough to shift me from LTS though....
