Internet connectivity near Sun City

Post by Belix »

Hey guys
Anyone know how the big mines around Sun City and Boshoek connect? There is hardly any Telkom infrastructure out there, and our land lines have been stolen so many times, Telkom has refused to replace them now. We have a satellite connection but it's hardly the most speedy connection in the world...

Surely the big mines out Rustenburg way would have something decent in place?

Spelling corrected  Sorry my spelling sucks. Whatever happened to Firefox checking your spelling anyhow?
Vodacom 3G is decidedly patchy around our offices out there. MTN better, but not great either.
Surely must be something other than cellular??

Most big businesses have microwave links. They range from R10K to R100K per link, depending on the equipment.

Depends what usage you need out of this, but you could set up a 3G router with a high gain antenna.

Which mine is this, the diamond mine? I did some work their, had decent 3G access using a higher gain antenna.

What would something like that cost Urban?

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

A Poynting 3G antenna is around R900. Not sure of the router.

The other more stable option is VSAT. I don't have prices on that. But if you are looking at either VSAT or Microwave, give me a shout. I plan/built wireless links for a living and I also know people doing large satellite links.

hello

I think microwave links because they have range from R10k to R100k, and changed according to the equipment.and another choice 3G router with a high gain antenna.
