Actually the unreal III people agree with him. Carmack = coding genius, so hell I'll agree by his mere authority. A DX10 card on XP will be excellent though for the performance boost. And I hear the 8800 GTS is going for R3300.
(aside : Crysis looks like a prettier farcry and I really don't want that. as for the suit abilities we've seen most of the things it can do in other games... why do I always have to be different )

Rumour has it that there wont be a DX10 for XP to force people to move over to new technology. Another rumour was that a DX9 version will be released for XP so you can run DX10 games.
Technology moves so fast its hard to keep up. While the new cards (gfx) always seems to perform 100x better than the older ones your older games and benchmarking utilities doesnt agree on that. I havent gotten any higher result on 3Dmark 2000 or 2001 since my radeon 9600pro and AMD 3000. Now I have a geforce 7800GTX and a 3800 64x2. 3D mark 03 runs someone better but it leads to believe the cards are taking shortcuts in processing some instructions while in true power it hasnt improved much.
There are still too many people with XP and Vista hasnt matured yet. With most games running noticeablely slower and software compatibility issues similar to XP during its dawn it will take 6 months to a year before Vista becomes the gamers choice.
It would seem that gameplay plays second fiddle to graphics these days...

Us poorer gamers should be considered in the development of new games - we will gladly accept poorer graphics - if only the games would allow our more modest equipment to run it!
Console graphics sucks. You can't even replace the graphics card if it is outdated. It only stays cool for the first 3-6 months then it is outdated and you have to buy a whole new console with new games for your new console. Extremely expensive.
Ja, But every time the graphics is outdated you can just buy a new card. (also extremely expensive, but will last 1-2 years.) You would still be able to play your old games.

And the AI take cover with whatever they was in that area, even though it could be destroyed by the tank... We dealing with some very advanced AI in this game guys no jokes. Now you can see why I say that even with low graphics you can still enjoy this game.
