Advice on SSD's

Whats your current load time? Mine is around 4-5 seconds when loading into the game from main menu. Another PC I played it on took around 15 seconds +.

Should one turn off indexing on the system reserved partition that's located on the SSD?

Exceptionally stable, great performance and got it a great price when I was over in Canada. I strayed away from Intel and OCZ SSD's as I remember many reviews mentioning those two brands had all sorts of firmware issues and plenty were binned.

The Samsung 830 was around about the quickest when it came to Write speed, however the price didn't justify getting one as I could get a 256Gb Crucial instead of the Samsung 830 128Gb. I see the 840 Pro is now available, although I'd imagine it has a steep price on it.

I haven't had a single minutes issue with my Crucial M4 since getting it. Slapped it in, Installed Windows 7 via USB and it took a couple minutes to complete the installation....maybe 8 or 10 minutes. PC boots in under 20 seconds and shuts down within a matter of seconds.

And yes. Indexing along with Defrag should indeed be turned OFF when using an SSD.

I've turned of indexing on my C drive in Windows Explorer, but when I go to Disk Management I see that there's a system reserved partition that's part of the SSD.
Should I do anything with that partition? (Indexing?)

The system reserve is there to hold some boot files and tools to enable you to repair your OS using a disk image should it ever crash. I've found that its not really necessary if you're the type to troubleshoot and take care of the OS and updates yourself, but for some people it's been incredibly useful. Its never larger than 200MB in my experience, though, so you can leave it there.

I wasn't planning on renaming or removing it.
I was just wondering whether I should keep Indexing on it enabled?

Indexing in general on an SSD is by popular belief something that should be disabled due to constant write changes that it frequently makes to the drive, (potentially) limiting the disks life span.

Not quite. Indexing is a harddrive feature that saves a map table of where you files are located for faster harddrive access to files. However SSD will find what your looking for in the same time as it would take to read the index.

True however if you do your homework on the very select Windows features that are advised to disable when running an SSD, you'll come across one of the hot topics regarding SSD's...obtaining longer life span. Indexing is certainly one of these cases as Windows constantly writes/modifies indexing values that create said map or table, which isn't neccessary because as you say, SSD's are quick enough without requiring Indexing.

Lol thanx mate. I'm going to turn off indexing on my system reserved partition then (which is part of my SSD).
I've already done quite a few other tweaks that I found in a guide as well as some provided by Starbound.
The only swak thing now is the fact that I have a 3Gbps motherboard
