Apparently $100 bills are the new good stuff.

WTF. This is why we sit with games that do not push modern PC's to the max.......what is wrong with him, somebody please hand him the latest PC mag so he can see what sort of power a modern gaming rig has.

That said, he is probably worried that if it was released on PC only it would make no money......curse you consoles :x

I just upgraded my system (had a bit of good luck) and now I am running a Core i5-3570K and even as a guy who plays with the latest and greatest gear I still get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that my system has a kick bottom processor in it.

As far as gaming goes anything i5 and up is as good as it gets. I'm trying to make peace with the fact that when I stop upgrading my system I might be looking at a system costing 1/5th of my current systems price.

I agree with you Starbound. I moved from the Phenom II X6 1090T to the i5-3570K and put simply I don't demand enough of my system to warrant the upgrade. I chose to move to the Intel side because I felt like a change and I am enjoying using Lucid's VirtuMVP to help reduce my machine's power consumption.

If the rumours are true with the next gen consoles being far outdated already then we can assume our current PCs will clean house even in the coming console cycle. Unless MS goes thru with the idea of turning your 120hz 3D OLED screen into a smudgy touch screen. ...I hear steam is coming to linux.

Yea, I just dont see the touch interface taking off on the desktop. Do you really want to ditch the tried and tested mouse and keyboard combo, also as SB said it will make you nice shiny screen all smudgy with all the finger marks.

It would be nice if one or two dev's would make a game to take advantage of the PC's power

Doom was such a game... so was Crysis and Metro 2033 is too.

So the conclusion is still Ivy for stock and Sandy for OC unless you plan on doing a custom job on the physical hardware itself?

Sure, why not? :P

I'd go for Ivy anyways. Guess I've finally accepted that OCing is a waste of time for gaming.

Wow, impressive. 40 phase vrm, but as impressive as it is I just wonder if that is not overkill

Well, they say it may most likely never see the consumer market, but you could probably do some insane OCing on that thing.

True, but OC'ing is not as attractive as it once was. Even at stock speeds the i5 and i7 CPU's will handle pretty much everything you throw at them without breaking a sweat

Well, that board obviously is not aimed at your standard user. The OC guru who aims for records would jump at something like that.

pcmag.com wrote:The highlight of the keynote, as expected, was a demonstration of test systems running the company's fourth-generation Core processor, known as Haswell. This will be based on the same 22nm process used in the current third-generation Core products, known as Ivy Bridge, but "was designed with mobility in mind," Perlmutter said. Haswell will consume twenty times less power in connected standby mode.
<..>
A system based on a 10-watt Haswell should have equal or slightly better performance than one based on a 17-watt Ivy Bridge, he said.

Have heard very little about them lately too. Still wondering when bulldozers replacement is coming out? I long for the days when they made the best budget CPU's in the business, things like the Duron, Athlon XP, early Semprons(skt754) and some of the phenom chips

I suppose they have had some success in the notebook market, their lano CPU's seem to work ok with the half decent integrated graphics and all.

AMD probably went over to the console side of things as it is rumoured all the next gen consoles will be using current gen budget gpus. ...well that cant be right?

Guess that means Haswell is not far off. Which, by the way, might just be the most awesomemest OC CPUs ever:

LGA1150. Feeling very sorry for anyone buying an intel pc. It has only 2 years of life then you have to get a new one if yours blows in any way.

Ok- colour me very confused. Just what exactly is AMD's newest chipset? Is it still the AM3's? Or what about about this new A-series FM1?

If I wanted to build a (cheapish) multimedia pc- what would by my best route? I don't want to start a build thread as I'm not quite ready to start buying yet.
