Springbok Tour

Post by lancelot »

Well I am really happy about this new thread! What are your thoughts on the upcoming Pacific Island and Tri-Nation games? I really am dissapointed that Victor Matfield is injured, he is a star in both the lineouts and the scrum.
The Islanders play a real physical game and the Boks seem to be injury prone right now. I would not have taken on thgis game if I was the coach, I think the Bokke will win but at what cost?

Well, all I hope is that at some stage in sport people will start to realise that when a team loose, its not always the fault of the coach....:(
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

So true, the game is actually played by the people on the field, they claim to be proffessional after all, I just hope that they play that way!

The Islanders "should" be a walk over, but with all the Bok injuries you never know...

The Coach is the strategist, the playmaker, the man that does the talking. That's probably why the coach gets blamed most of the time. Sometimes it is the coach as he doesn't know what he's doing, but other times it is just the players that aren't performing.

I am going to be watching this game keenly. I don't think the Islanders are going to be a walk over. They are a tough bunch and play hard rugby.

This is going to be a hard game. I expect them to put a lot more pressure on the boks that the Welch and Ireland did. I can't wait to see how Jake White handles the tactics.

I am a little disturbed by the fact that we are playing these guys only a week before the Tri Nations though. I expect to see a few injuries. This could be the game that costs us the Tri Nations.

This is my whole point Hill! I agree with you, they are tough and very physical with nothing to loose, in both their games against The Aus and Blacks, they resorted to high tackles and over robust play. The Aus injuries wher quite dramatic! We should win but I hope the price is not too high!

Will never forget that tackle on Derick in the RWC from Somoa centre.

Like you guys/girls have said this weekends encounter is not going to be easy on the bodies and minds. Expect to see alot of lost ball from the Boks, they will be keeping their eye on the incoming tackles more that they should on the ball.........

I don't expect the boks to win the Tri-Nations. They can lose all the games as long as they can so to the public that they can compete against the best of the best. I'm not looking for results, I'M LOOKING FOR IMPROVEMENT

Lets hope this weekend is not going to be a doctors operating table again. 8O

*/me grimaces in pain, remembering that tackle on Hougaard.

That was a classic tackle.

Now that you mention it SquattingDog. I don't really mind what the results are, just that there is Improvement!

Well improvement there was, but really in the first half only! The Bok forwards were devastating, played with great power and passion. Second half, not bad but they went into relax mode a bit too soon. Still a heartening performance but as we all agree, Saturday is going to be someting else! I am full of hope that our performance will be good and I am praying for rain! The All Black back line is excellent in the dry!

Rain, rain, rain! :?

I read the article by Nick Mallett yesterday in the Sunday Times. The Boks have got a great base forming and if they carry on like they are, SA will become a powerhouse in world rugby again. :P

I can't wait. As for the Boks performance, I didn't get to see the game, so I'm going on what I read in the newspaper. What it looks like is that once the Boks were far enough in the lead they lost concentration on the current game and were thinking of next week's game againt the All Blacks.

I think SA has got a real chance against the All Blacks on Saturday. Lets hope for the best.

I see the New Zealand bookies have written the Springboks off for tomorrows game, 09:30, our time. Somehow I do not quite agree with them, the game is going to be played on a wet field at a temprature of 2C! I rate the Boks higher than that and truly feel that they are in with a chance, hey seven All Black victories over us in a row cannot go on! It is our longest losing streak against any one side ever!

The Bokke played well but still too many mistakes, that last lineout throw, long to the centres cost us that last and only All Black try! We must learn to play tight in the closing minutes if we are defending a small lead. What a pity! Too many penalties, although some of them may have been contrived?
I am really hopeful for the Wallaby game in Perth next Saturday, Perth the other half of South Africa!

As I said in the "Disappointed" thread. We were looking for improvement and that's what we got. A 2 point loss against the best team in the world is not bad at all.

I was particularly impresses on how the Boks defended...hard. Also I had to smile on how they took out Carlos Spencer and Justin Marshall. :bigups:

I am so looking forward to the game on Saturday against the Wallabies.

I agree with you envinyatar, but, the reason we lost the game is bad captaincy.
How can you take a short lineout, with only a couple of minutes left, and then just chuck the ball deep and hope for the best.
Maybe John Smith forgot that a rugby ball is not ROUND.

So close, yet so far...again. :( What another awesome match!

At least the Boks have got 2 bonus points from these 2 matches. That means if we win the 2 home leg matches then there is a strong possibility that the Boks will win the Tri-Nations. w00t!

Yes, I was happy with most of the play, inexperience still shows though! Line outs were atrocious but I am sure that they will improve! I think it will be a different ball game in Johannesburg and Durban! As Envi says, could lead to some interesting permutations, will be watching the Aus - NZ game with interest on the weekend! I hope Aus beat NZ!

I think we should all be really proud of the way the boks are playing. They have a new coach and an entirely new team from the one that played in last years Tri Nations. The fact that they have only narrowly lost to NZ and Aus (two very settled and confident teams) is a tribute to their immense future potential.

Give Jake a few years with this team and the bokke could well be ontop of world rugby once more.

Angry, good comments from you, I realise that you are an Aus suporter because of Rathbone, no problem man! You are obviously torn up! I would maybe :?: do the same, difficult to say :?: :!:

Aha! The plot thickens!

Angry Rabbit = Yours Sincerely,
Dayne Rathbone

Don't be embarrased about supporting the Aus team because of a relative of Rathbone's stature! He is a great player and a sad loss for us, would of loved to have had him on our side! All the very best to him and here's to his prosperous future in Australia!

I'm looking forward to those chumps coming to SA. With the way we've been playing I think we might just be able to get somewhere.
