Hey i would like some help please with freeBSD 5.
It seams that everytime i add a Plug & play ISA ne2000 compatable NIC into the system it kernel panics.
And something with the ICU!
This machine is a Pentuim Pro 200mhz 32mb Ram 6,4Gb HDD.
I know however that it is not machine based as ive tried this on a P3 machine too!
Heard somewhere that it is a bug?
PLZ help

It may be a kernel module conflict, or rather, the fact that the network card is compiled into the kernel as opposed to being a module and is conflicting with other hardware.

What happens if you move the network card to another slot and try rebooting ?

If your really brave, try recompile the kernel and check how your nec card is being intialised - via the kernel or via a module.

Not for the fient hearted !

Alternatively, get another el-cheapo network card.

Or you can stuff freeBSD and get SuSE 9.0/9.1

:?:
Um well ive tried moving the NIC to a dif slot but not luck.
Ive even tried differant types of Ne2000 compat plug&play ISA cards but all give this error? :<
As for recompiling the kernel , to scarde to screw up my gateway to the internet.

O ' and as for Suse thats fine. But im looking for a dedicated server enviroment.
Ill use suse for my workstations not servers.

Unbeleivable, Its been months and now the release of FreeBSD 5.3 Stable is out and those ne2000 compat cards still dont work :p

Oh' well, doesnt matter. Got another card.
Man FreeBSD is awsome!!! So much faster and efficent than linux!
(Besides linux is a unix ripoff ;>)
