Want to replace wireless adsl modem-thingy

G'day.

My long-serving DLink 2640U kicked the bucket last Monday. [Doesn't power up]

Naturally, I would rather not be paying for an ADSL service I cannot use, so I would like to purchase a replacement at some stage. I can probably stretch to R300-R400 this month, and around R600 next month. I realise that at this price I cannot expect anything designed to withstand a few seconds' worth of fire from a GAU-8 Avenger 30mm rotary cannon firing depleted Uranium shells, so my needs are for something that will allow me to connect to the internet via ADSL and allow my smartphone to do likewise by way of WiFi.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Will visit my local Telkom Direct store, and ask whether they sell them.

I can get a TP-Link TD-W8951ND locally for R405. Have any of you heard of this brand?

Does that device include an ADSL modem?
Are you an MWeb customer?

No the Mweb customer bit...

And it is VDSL but it will be compatible with your current ADSL installation.

Tis' a pity that they do not provide more information about the unit. [Caveat emptor]

Update: it turns out that it was the power supply that was faulty.
I bought one of them universal adapter thingies from a nearby electronics store, and verified that the router did then turn on.

As luck would have it, when i was walking back to work, i tripped, fell, and my router absorbed some of the impact such that the case has partly opened at the seam, and something is rattling around inside.

I'll plug it in tonight, and see if i still have WiFi and can connect to the 'net.
