How do I install Windows on a Macbook pro?

My sister bought a Macbook pro at the start of the year and she loves the thing. The problem comes in that the mac version of office does not support the plugins that she needs to use for her MBA. The windows version of office does however and that forces her to use the laptop she replaced.

I know people install windows on their macbooks and was wondering (and hoping) that someone here has managed to do so themselves. Anyone done this and how easy is it to do it?

office 365?

bootcamp?

step one in either instance is:
  • get roaring drunk

Not 365, just home and student 2011/12 on the mac and 2007 or 2010 on the windows laptop.

Bootcamp seems to be the common thing to use and doing it drunk might result in me being that dog in your avatar :P

Step 2 and 3: Rub some vaseline on the soles of your shoes. And Gangnam style on the closest smooth tile floor.

While I appreciate the feedback I can't really say its helping her situation.

It will, once you have proven yourself worthy by not being in hospital after steps 1, 2 and 3 you may approach the following tutorial with caution.

I'll be honest I'm worried about the level of caution that needs to be taken. I'm familiar with apple and stuff that just works, but from the 3 "how to" guides I've looked at so far I've come across the "it doesn't work for me" replies.

Sounds like your all telling me to not do it. Is it that problematic?

if you're going to be a nervous nellie, go virtualbox...

aside from the net stack, it makes zero other changes to the system so no risk... :|

we're suggesting the alcohol because nothing resolves glitches with quite so much bravado*...

*depending on the volume consumed this may end up being "sod it! installing steamOS and damn the consequences!"

I think I'd rather leave it for a apple tech to install then. SteamOS on the other hand wipes your primary drive when trying to install so for now, SteamOS is a no no on my gaming system. And SteamOS won't help my sister get her MBA :P

Does virtualbox allow me to install office 2013 and will it keep all files? Or does it disappear after a reboot or something? License products won't reset will it?

Virtualisation is pretty established...

we even run production virtual servers at work...

to answer:

i) Yes
ii) Yes
iii) No - if you remember to rip them off of the VM....

Ok I managed to install windows 8 using virtual box however now I don't know how to work the rest like right clicks, start button etc. Got any advice on that? And what should my settings be to allow for the native retina display resolution? Or if not entirely native something that looks ok on it?
