I designed a "website" in notepad...

The CEO of my company stops me in the passage and issues instructions that I help a writer design a website for his book. The CEO says he is paying for all this, so money isn't an issue here...
I immediately schedule a meeting with the writer, myself and some web designers.
The guy refuses the meeting and tells me he doesn't want any 'fancy graphics' or 'drop down menus' or anything.
Just a "website".

He 'designs' his site for me in MS Publisher, mails it to me and says "Put that on the internet for me"
I ask him what does he want his website name to be. His mind is blown.
We eventually settle on a domain name.

Open up Notepad++ and 20 minutes later I have emulated his masterpiece in raw HTML.
I buy the domain from GoDaddy for a few bucks. I then give the HTML it to our webhost - who suggest I get professional help to assist me in the design - I tell them to shut up and just host the damn thing...

And here we are:

You have several HTML validation issues (I validated against XHTML 1.0 Transitional); may want to fix those.

Yeah, I want to fix those about as much as you want to be locked in Oscar Pistorius bathroom.

Thanks for the heads-up tho :P

What the flying monkey is that...

For some reason I think of paint drying when looking at the site... :P

Good job at getting it done in notepad :). I feel sorry for those people who have small monitors because that menu bar is going to be a pain for navigating. Wonder what it will look like from my phone...

At least you did not do a Geocities type page... :P

Guys, dont get bogged down in semantics.
The important thing here is that in 2013 I designed a commercial website in a text editor

That site needs some fancy graphics. And possibly some drop down menus.

Question: I know internet is cheap and fast in Oz, but is having a 1MB jpeg on the front page really necessary?

Cool. But just in case you might want to optimise those images:
Photoshop->File->Save For Web, or Ctrl+Alt-+Shift+S/Cmd+Alt+Shift+S

:) I know I know, that's why I put "But just in case". Use it, don't use it.

Maybe we should change this thread for people to post web design atrocities.

My first submission goes to: Georde R R Martin. Yes, that George R R Martin, the man who wrote The Song of Fire and Ice series! You may know it as the hugely successful Game of Thrones series on HBO...
