They are new so therefore have not proven themselves to be legendary or indestructible yet

That's because they are rarer than hen's teeth. And the numbers are dwindling as they are bought up and exported to the UK and Europe. That reminds me, I don't see Beetles or Mercs being bought up by overseas collectors.GreyWolf wrote:I can count on 0 hands the number of Escorts I see on the roads. Beetles on the other hand...
I have some. They're working just fine.GreyWolf wrote:Bro, you need glasses.
Actually there is a big problem in this country with Brits buying all our bugs. The locals resent the foreigners because they pay top dollar for our rust free vehicles, and the beetle supply in SA is being raped.Hman wrote:I don't see Beetles or Mercs being bought up by overseas collectors.
I beg to differ.Hman wrote:I have some. They're working just fine.
Actually yes they do. Particularly so the beetle and the original kombi, because we have(or had) many rust free examples.Hman wrote:That's because they are rarer than hen's teeth. Well the guys overseas are so desperate for Escorts that they are even buying rusty ones.THE_STIG wrote:Actually yes they do. Old Mercs don't rust. And there are many in Europe anyway so they don't need to come here looking for them, but if a collector sees one here at a good price they will buy it
+1SykomantiS wrote:By what measurement would you measure a new car as the best car of all time? By the very definition, a car should have been around for a while to even qualify, would it not?
Good engine along with mercs old silky smooth straight 6. Personally I think Alfa's 3L V6 was bestSykomantiS wrote:The one thing I'll say is that regarding engines and not cars, BMW's 6 cylinder has been in every wards auto top10 list since its inception, iirc (though that list is USA only and leaves a lot to be desired).
So its just me then. I love my car more than just about anything else, and I don't feel as at home in any other car. Everything is exactly where I think it should be in there. The steering wheel, the pedals, the buttons......I go as far as saying i will never find something that I like more. Sure the clutch is on its last legs and the gearbox was not Mercedes finest bit of engineering(the downshifts are brutal) but that adds a certain somethingSykomantiS wrote:As far as my first car/vehicle goes, I'd also have to say no. 1st car was 'n 150 carb Ballade, I felt and cared for that car a lot less than my current Civic. The Civic would be my all-time best car ever out of cars I've owned. As for bikes, it would be my 2nd bike, not the 1st and not my current bike, that I consider my best bike ever owned.
Yep that they do. Went there not long ago for a new fan belt. All they said was "certainly how many would you like" not "no we don't have such a thing in the country". Then I asked about other bits and they had every single piece in stock. Headlights, sensors, bits of suspension.....everythingHman wrote:What I can say for the Mercedes is that if you are so inclined and have the money Mercedes still stocks parts for the old models.
*cough*french*cough*THE_STIG wrote:Well 1956 is pretty old. Few of those around. But they still were able to get it which is pretty amazing
Some other manufactures have to order like that even for common parts on their new vehicles.
