Any assistance would much appreciated.

-To start, I bombed my laptop, installed Win 8 64bit and all updates to date.
-Installed Micro Office Pro Plus 2010 and all updates to date.

Now when I do a basic formula that I have always used previously eg:

Code: Select all

=A1*1.14
The darn thing says "The Formula You Typed Contains An Error".

I checked my regional settings. Any other ways I can write this formula perhaps?

Shots!

What language / regional settings do you have? Perhaps it is expecting the comma as a decimal?

Strike the above - did not see that you had checked it.

Can you email me the file? See if it is system specific or file specific?.

Try using brackets (a1)*(1.14)?

He could try that but it should work exactly as he has it. We need to fix his problem but I have not heard of such a problem as this.

You can also try =A1*0.14+A1 - I still get the feeling that the problem is the decimal for some reason.

=A1*14%+A1 (if this works then it is definitely your decimal point)

Phew - so glad to know I wasn't losing my mind. That was the only reason I could think of.

Glad you got it sorted.
