Ubuntu Mobile
Kubuntu Mobile
Meego
Tizen
etc.

I just wish they all would just get into one bed and finally finish something.

Your point is? This is not targeted at budget phones you know.

Perhaps the following confused me.

With all-native core apps and no Java overhead, Ubuntu runs well on entry-level smartphones – yet it uses the same drivers as Android. So now it’s easy to bring a better experience to customers all over the world.

1Ghz single core isn't high end anymore.

With a properly designed UI and a not too high resolution it could run fine on 500Mhz and 256mb ram imo. Add loads of eye candy and run a HD display and you're gonna need a faster CPU.

If/when the first handset launches I can guarantee you that it will be a medium/high to high end device:

At least:
720p or greater display of at least 4" diagonal
1.5Ghz quad or dual core CPU
1GB ram
16GB storage
MicroSD slot
8MP camera

say hello to my little friend!...

depending on how you strip it, the kernel will run on some ridiculously lightweight kit... it's actually the graphic output which determines the spec more than the kernel...

Nice.

That's what I was getting at rusty. More pixels and eye candy require more power, and pylons.
