Bonus 2012

Post by StarPhoenix »

And now, the one you have all been waiting for....possibly the most important news you have been anticipating this year. [Except fro Tribble: she is expected to present a "donation" to her boss.]

Were you one of the lucky ones who received a thirteenth cheque, and what are your plans for it?

In a departure from the cut-down bonuses I have received over the past two Decembers, this year I was pleasantly surprised to the tune of slightly more than my gross monthly salary.

I am going to use it to pay off outstanding medical expenses, and to replace the cash I took out of the money I have invested at NFB to pay to go to Rage.

You?

I got a bonus that amounts to a little more than half of my gross salary. It will come in handy. Now, in addition to all the maintenance work I get to do this December, I also get to go Christmas shopping at the busiest time of the year.

I anticipate a fair amount of money spent at Baby City in preparation for the new arrival next year.

What's bonus? Is it some kind of spread that you put it on your bread?

Got mine and it is what I expected since I pay money in every month so I get my full bonus with the tax man not touching it. One of the few reasons why I cannot leave this company, this perk is awesome to have. As to what I intend to do with it... Put it towards the new car to help lower payments.

Oh and cancel credit card debt...

Depending on the wellbeing of our business we usually authorized a 13th cheque. However this year might be the last as is bonus I can afford. But I believe my employees (by law anyone under the threshold must get 2 weeks bonus btw, these are my over threshold salary workers) deserved this. Times forward will be tough though. I don't see a growth for us and expenses does not stay the same, they grow.

I'm thinking I should dump my bonus directly into the bank and just let it lay.

Bonus is taxable as far as I remember as it is an income.

You are correct, a bonus is a taxable income thats why our company gives us the option to pay some of our salary in every month so as to cover the tax at the end of the year. So for me my bonus is a extra month salary without tax ;).

First I've heard that a bonus for a particular group is mandatory.

We've been promised ours, regular salary is already in, so if there is anything, will have to be in a second run. Keeping an eye out for the approval email to run the second run...

You earn below the threshold or get paid under the table?

Below threshold.
