How is this supposed to work? What I gather from talking to devotees who don't seem to get how the business works themselves: Amway sells you their already overpriced products at a discount when you sign up. They buy directly from the manufacturers which is what enables them to do this, no middle-men you see. They still somehow manage to make enough cash off of these cost-price products to enable a rewards system where members get tons of cash for recruiting new shoppers. That's the lure: eventually, you'll be making money by doing absolutely nothing, just because you've referred people to Amway. They will of course be repeat customers (because Amway products are so great and without competition) which becomes your income stream. No work required.

Monthly, you attend motivational seminars which cost a whole lot of money, but you get to meet the people who have been successful in the business. The proof is in the fact that they all drive flashy cars. Who knows why they feel the need to socialise with poor people still. They will sell you cds, books and flash cards to motivate you in your quest to lounge in the sun with a pina-colada and and be home when your first-born says "dada" for the first time.

Sounds like epic BS to me, am I wrong? Has anyone else had to deal with friends/relatives who have fallen for this? Advice, please. Some people are thoroughly angry with me.

Tell them the only way they will drive that flashy car is if they stal the speakers car at one of thes seminars since nobody is gona give you cash for sitting on your bottom unless you already have enough that you can live on your intrest

scamway... given that the system focus on organisation, plugging of over-priced "motivational" material within the system, over-priced "conferences" and more organisation - i've yet to be convinced it is not a pyramid scheme...

tupperware at least pretends to be employ a direct marketing model. amway sells to amway so the only way to make the system work in your favour is to fill your downstream with suckers who are buying their amway from you... much as you're buying your amway from your upstream contact... now why does that sound so familiar...

I know a guy who got sucked into Amway for a short while. Didn't last long enough for me to draw any conclusions, but I thought it was generally accepted that it is a pyramid scheme.

Amway is a great business opportunity.
Cash in everything and invest!!!

If you're super outgoing and not put off easily, it might work for you. Otherwise stay away. It's legal but unless you only want to enjoy the 'great savings' on product prices, you need to recruit people below you ala pyramid scheme.
