A feminist statement?

Post by Stuart »

You have to hand it to Emer O’Toole. Not many 28-year-olds would go on national TV wearing a sleeveless little black frock if they hadn’t shaved their armpits for 18 months.

Yet the incredibly pretty Emer proudly raised her slim arms on This Morning last week to reveal that she doesn’t shave, or wax, or pluck. And we’re not talking a bit of fluff here — she revealed underarm beards that would have made Osama bin Laden proud.

Yikes, it was horrible. As were her hairy legs to match. Watching her I nearly parted company with my breakfast.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

What a retard, clearly never heard of body grooming or personal hygiene.

If she shaved I'd hit it.

Oh god that's horrible.

Reminds of this Belgian chick that came to fly paragliders here in SA. So I was sitting there minding my own business when she decides it's time to change her top right next to me . She took the dirty one off and I got to see her boobs as she had no bra on. At first I was like :D but then I noticed the bushes under her arm pits then I was like

If the situation up there is so hairy then you might need a weedwacker with a power lvl of over 9000 for downstairs.

Why is this an a problem? Gender stereotypes?

Do YOU shave your legs and armpits? Have YOU had a full-body wax or daubed mud unto your face recently?

/I sometimes wonder why most female mammals are not noticeably less hairy than the males. Is the interplay of hormones different in Homo sapiens when to compared to, for example, Bos taurus?

SP: it's not considered lady-like to not be groomed as in one must shave legs and under arms and the lady garden area...
it's not aesthetically pleasing to see a girl with long under arm hairs and leg hairs... it just tells society that she doesn't 'care' for her appearances...

some athletes shave/wax their legs and arms and sometimes also their bodies for better aerodynamics...

It's got more to do with western society's standards of beauty with which we were brought up. A couple hundred years ago being fat was considered beautiful as the rich and powerful were all overweight because of their lifestyles. Now look at us if you aren't skinny you are deemed fat and ugly. For normal men this tends to be less of a problem as we tend to care less about what others think, while the female population are more concerned with being seen as beautiful.

With regards to the whole hair situation I prefer shaved over hairy for aesthetic reasons, and also I wouldn't eat a cake that was covered in hair so if a woman expects me to go there it should be clean.

if we follow this mentality as shown we also get that woman mustn't:
  • frown
    or cry.
or show any emotion other than those that are pleasing to us.
because you're there for our enjoyment, darnit!

Yeah that much hair under her arms will only make me go running. Showed the ladies here at my work and they all said that she needs a good waxing, so its not just guys who find that an eye sore... ;)

Well, if all else fails - just do the totally unexpected and read the link provided in the OP?
Women have been plucking and tweezing for centuries. Removing underarm hair became common in 1915 in Britain, when flapper-fashions meant women started wearing sleeveless dresses.

But as early as the ancient Egyptians, a smooth and hairless body was seen as a sign of great beauty. They concocted a mixture of oil and honey to strip body hair, a forerunner of what we call ‘sugaring’ today.

As far back as 1096, the returning Crusaders brought the practice of women shaving their bodies back to Europe from Asia, and castles had a specially built room where the ladies of the court met to shave.

Meet the right girl and I bet it won't matter. I agree that underarms and legs should be shaved - the rest is optional. Neatness, however, is a must
