Are you scientifically literate?

Post by KALSTER »

Quite a good quiz with a good range of questions from several different subjects (physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology ...)

Are you scientifically literate? Take our quiz

Tell us how you did...

I scored 44/50. Not too bad for a high school education I think.

Meh, only 41. I got like all the biology stuff wrong. Nailed the astronomy section though.

The questions are fairly easy for scientifically minded folks (hey Wik1d ;) ), but I'd say 31, 32 is probably still quite a bit above average, so well done guys!

Oh yeah definitely. If you had physics/chemistry at school you'd definitely get 30+, which is subsequently the last time I really did it. A few of the questions I only knew the answers due to additional facts I picked up at varsity or through personal interest (astronomy). I knew nothing about the biology stuff, because I didn't have bio at school.

Some I did have to guess, but I eliminated the ones I definitely knew weren't correct, and then hoped I picked the correct one of the two that were left over. Also, bastards for the two trick questions. I knew they were trick questions, yet I picked the obvious, and incorrect answer.

Yeah, made three stupid mistakes myself. And yes, astronomy is cool (more the physics of it), though I'm not that versed with constellations and such.

Got 34. Some of them I just plain guessed instead of trying to logically eliminate.

Nah, I was being serious. I am sure there are other quizzes I'd be dismal at, while you would have no trouble. Such is life. ;)

Good job SP. ;)

Just kidding. I haven't sat down and tested my literacy yet. Does this involve many calculations?

ooooh, can I also. Having been given all the correct answers when I got them wrong first time round I am fairly certain I can do far better on side B.

To answer the question posed in the title of this thread, apparently yes.

48/50

What I got wrong: Greek letter used for coefficient of friction in Classical Physics
The meaning of the suffix "nimbus"
Apparently I had not encountered these at school or while reading - unless I did, and forgot.

Not bad for someone with a Matric Certificate, eh?
//I'm lucky that almost all of the questions they asked were things I knew, or could work out, either on paper , or by process of elimination.//

Too easy for you too?

Most of them were pretty quick.

What I found tedious was having to click twice to get to the next question.
