Agreed.

I'm kicking myself for giving him the money though, seeing as he did not have to throw anything away. Dummy!

Merit Scroll in Std 6/7
Magna Cum Laude in Std 8
Honours in Std 10

Full house of distinctions in September mock final matric exams, but crashed to three in the finals
Why are you so down on yourself the whole time then? That is very good if you ask me. I managed only a single distinction (Biology) in Std 10. Though I didn't study much and never did any homework, but still. Stop putting yourself down so much man! You haven't posted anything on this forum yet that remotely makes it look like you deserve even a 10th of it.

Your brother is acting like a douche if you ask me and neither him nor your mother is giving you any respect. That is nonsense and THEIR shortcoming, NOT yours.

Does he know that you gave it back to him? Ask him whether he got it.

@Tribble: He would have received notification on his cellphone.
Might be something of a sensitive question.

Kalster: Nah....I just worked myself half to death and was good at rote learning. didn't do as well at Maths and Physics. :-P

Given the way you come across, I would never have guessed.

I come across smarter than what I am? ... Maybe I am just a walking 1 distinction banality with Wikipedia on Speed Dial? Maybe I don't have many friends, because I really am just a pompous know-it-all douche and don't even realise it?

Except, I don't think so. Something I have learned is to look at myself critically, but objectively. I know I have shortcomings, even serious ones, but we all do. All I can do is to try to be better, but I don't see any value whatsoever in continually bashing myself about them. I have learned that, even though it is a cliché, that we are all special. And I mean special, and brilliantly so. We all have something to offer, even if it has been buried under layers of self doubt. I don't have idols, because nobody is perfect. I want to be me, but strive to be a better me. I am perpetually learning about myself and about others and the more I learn, the less scary it all becomes.

What you need to do, is to give yourself a break, because nobody else seems to. When you have done wrong, accept it and learn from it, but bashing yourself about it has only negative consequences. You have much to offer and I don't know why you can't see it. If other people can't see it (woman included), it is their problem, not yours. I know it can be lonely and you yearn for the experience of female companionship and I know it is tough. But treating yourself like you do can only make it worse. The emotional rollercoasters you go through every day will get easier eventually if you just force yourself to think about the whole picture the whole time, instead of fixating on singular problems and mistakes. Emotions are hard to train, even when you have developed a healthy intellectual approach, but they will eventually catch on. As you start improving, you will find yourself more at ease with both yourself and with others. Situations where you can get what you want will start appearing without you having to plan for it. You attitude towards yourself and others will change that automatically. The first step is yours to take.

TL;DR

Distinction for English here, C's for everything else.

Not a single fark given.

Academic achievements are meaningless in the real world and boasting about them years later make it seem like you haven't accomplished much since then :P

Okay fine, I've now read it.
The 500th motivational speech written for SP.
He seems to respond more to tough love than to flowery prose, so I usually just tell him to harden the **** up
It's beyond frustrating dealing with someone you know is capable and intelligent but somehow has managed to convince himself otherwise.

Personally I've always been able to coast by doing the bare minimum. I even get a fair amount of recognition and accolades. Maybe it's my rugged good looks. They say attractive people have it very easy.

I am also inclined to agree with what jamin_oz said in his following post. In fact, I would endorse it, and encourage the rest of you to follow his example.

I suppose that it depends on how you were treated while you were growing up as to how you will feel about yourself when you are older. Clearly your parents let you do your own thing. You were probably made responsible for smaller kids at an early age so you developed the self confidence. You were taught consequence and responsibility. And you are right - being attractive doesn't hurt.

Confident people get respected and admired.

Now imagine if we were all like you and told him the cold hard truth in the same manner you do - well you just wouldn't be unique then. You wouldn't stand out and be noticed. You definitely would not be able to troll us. So be grateful and enjoy our motivationals - gathering your ammunition for the next troll.

+1, stop being so down dude all is not lost

 School was something like this.

Q: Don't you have homework?
A: What homework :dontknow:

Q: Shouldn't you be studying?
A: What is this studying you speak of, can I eat it

Managed to get 2 distinctions in the end and a scroll with no effort required(except for maths though)

Hi Kalster. No, that is not what I meant.

What I was trying to say is that you come across as very smart. I guess my social/communication skills leave something to be desired, eh?

Nooo I think you missed his point birdie. I don't think he was saying that that is the impression you gave of him. I think he was trying to show you what you do to yourself - by doing it to himself. And then he said he doesn't do that. He wanted to show you what we see and feel when you beat yourself up.

We know you aren't as dumb and useless as you think you are. He was telling you to stop belittling yourself because only you believe it - we know better.
