Teach me your ways, wise one...

Okay.
So I want to give up my social life to become what one might call a "nerd" or "geek".
Now, I know what you're saying..."You don't BECOME one, you just are one." but it is possible.

For starters, what should I do?
What games should I play?
What do I need to buy?
Who should I be talking to?
What should I be doing in my spare time?
What should I be watching? [Star Wars FTW! 8) ] [Series? Anime? Movies?]
How should my room look? [Posters? What should be lying around?]
What websites should I lurk?
How should I speak?

I'm not saying that I don't consider myself one but i feel average compared to others.

So now I say...teach me your ways, oh wise one...

You should have posters of a bare-chested Steve Farrell. Speech with a thick Sri Lankan accent is essential. I'd also suggest browsing 4chan and following closely the teachings of ArchGeek Harold Camping.

Good luck.

Tribble will give you a welcome pack at the door.

And maybe be in a forest that has been covered in a day's snowfall...

Ignore that mouse! And for him to send someone as young and innocent as you to 4chan!!! I am shocked!!!!

Ronny is right in reminding you - you don't "become" a nerd or a geek - you just are one. Being one doesn't make you popular (except amongst other geeks and nerds). Popularity should not be a focus. Weird is also not a forgone conclusion.

Firstly - do you want to be a geek or a nerd? You have to decide as they are very different - though under certain circumstances - you can be both.

Once you have decided - we can continue.

Although there are some of us that has characteristics of both, of some bits and pieces, and a bit of abnormal in the mix.
Tribble is a geek
Kieron is a nerd
Jamin is a pervert
Bladerunner is a troll
Stuart is a Rat
The Kitten is mixed up because she has jee for a mother.
jee is a hermit with a penchant for shoes

Don't try to become something. Rather find out what you like, what you NEED. I think its the Bible that says try all things and keep the good. Your good is not my good is not Tribbs' good. Each of us find the things that make us thrill.

Find out first what you like. And stay AWAY from 4chan.... shees rattie my little paw-paw pip, i did not think you would lead the young lass that much astray! Its as good as giving her e-male addie to Jamin! :)

Depends on what sort of geek/nerd. If you want to be a Pc geek then you should have random pc parts everywhere and some motherboards stuck on the wall(I have this), or you should have Star Wars posters and millions of PC mags lying around. your room should be a mess besides from he PC which should be spotless and neat. In my case I have car posters, a "THE STIG" poster, Various top gear posters, a top gear calendar, McLaren posters, random pc bits everywhere, some Pc related posters, a neat stack of PCFormat mags(which I will no longer be buying :( )......

I'm 75% nerd, 25% geek, according to Tribble's infographic.

Thunderzmoon, you need to find your own answers in the end - it's about what makes you happy. You don't give up your social life, what happens is that you find games, books, series, nerdy or geeky hobbies that you enjoy so much that you forget to have a social life.

I am starting to dislike labels though. YOU CAN'T DEFINE ME, DICTIONARY!

Ahhhh I see there's a little confusion.
I am a nerd and a geek but I'm not an extreme nerd and geek and I want to be extreme because I love the...'culture.'

Both.
Because I have traits of both of them so I would combine them.
I get that you don't become one but I'd just like to be more I guess.
