Actually, to me it makes sense that he's using XP, as a) XP isn't as heavy on resources as Vista or 7 (and for these guys, every minute system resource matters), and b) most of the benchmarking tools in use don't have a Linux version. You'll notice that the guy turned off all the eye-candy and so forth to make the system as light as possible.

I'd be more impressed if he wasn't using liquid nitrogen. Now if he used nitroglisirin I might have been much more impressed.

He's using SuperPi. There's a Linux version. A command line Linux version.
He could install Linux and remove Gnome/KDE which would use as close to no resources as a modern functional OS can...
It's an impressive acheivement, no doubt.
But either he's tried Linux and failed because, hey, it's Linux and it's crap at doing unusual stuff
Or he's just gone for the lowest common denominator OS
Either way, achieving an awesome OC on an OS that is out to pasture is like buying a Veyron and only driving it to the shop on Saturday

But if you buy a Veyron you will probably only dive it to the shop.
But I agree with the Linux part, it really does suck at doing unusual stuff
