Windy roads :D I love those. There is actually a lovely stretch of road in Glenvista going towards Builders Warehouse filled with flowing S bends and a few sharp corners, with a steep drop just before one of them......

Hmm I am sure that Syko and I would cut about 8 hours out of a trip from here to Capetown

Hmm... let's test that.

Between your home in the Misty Mountains and my flat under Cape Town's big piece of rock, the distance is 1,553 km. Now, let's say that a typical driver keeping at the speed limit (i.e. me) would average around 95 km/h (which my car told me I did) over the entire trip (note: the average was influenced by things like 80 km/h down Van Reenen's Pass, 90 km/h through the Huguenot Tunnel, 60 km/h through dorps such as Laingsburg and Beaufort West, getting stuck behind heavies while waiting for the oncoming traffic, roadworks, and so forth...), it would take you 16 hours and 21 minutes to drive that. Add in 3 hours for stops to keep everyone well fed (and to relieve the Kitten of her motion sickness) and you'd get 19 hours and 21 minutes. (Google Maps claims 19 hours and 6 minutes, so I'm not far off here!)

Now, excluding the time spent at 1-Stops/Ultra Cities/Bloemfontein University running errands for the Kitten/etc., a subtraction of 8 hours means a driving time of 8 hours and 21 minutes, and to do 1,553 km in that time, you would need to average 186 km/h. Note that you won't be able to sustain this speed over the entire distance (i.e. you'd go over the cliffs at Van Reenen's, you WILL be stuck behind something doing 90 km/h in the tunnel), so to make up that lost time, you'd probably need to sustain 220-240 km/h on some sections (theoretically possible; I had the entire N1 to myself between Three Sisters and Colesberg - in both directions - and that section is generally straight and flat).

Now, most cars aren't capable of hitting such speeds, let alone sustaining it. You'd need a high performance car (such as a high-end Audi/BMW/Merc) or WiK1D's set of two wheels to do that - which tannie jee most certainly does not have (KK keeps on mentioning that her mother's car is about to fall apart, or something like that!). Yes, jee does drive like a bat out of hell, but even she would be limited by the machinery at her disposal.

Conclusion: not going to happen. QED.

Yes, even my own mother calls me Sheldon sometimes...

While you were sleeping for 8 hours, and stuffing your face a the breakfast table, I'd let jee drive :P
There you go, 10+ hours cut from your trip time, since you neglected stop over time, Wallowitz
