Man Caves! Who has one? Post pics!

Right so while driving to work yesterday afternoon rustys favorite radio show mentioned something that caught my ear: Man Caves. I vowed that when I get into work I will Google this and see what the world is going on about. Well since I was at work I forgot about this due to work and teasing Tribble, then I saw a forum post on HardOCP and now I know!

To read more about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_cave
A man cave, sometimes a mantuary[1] or manspace,[2] is a male sanctuary,[3] such as a specially equipped garage,[4] spare bedroom,[3] media room,[5] den,[6] or basement.[6][7] It is not a cave but rather a metaphor describing a room inside the house, such as the basement or garage or attic or office, or outside the house such as a wood shed or tool room, where "guys can do as they please" without fear of upsetting any female sensibility about house decor or design.[8] Paula Aymer of Tufts University calls it the "last bastion of masculinity".[8]

I am now inspired to do my own and have already got plans afoot in my head!

So who has their own? Post pics if you do!

/Its in the Ward.
//Its for Men! ;)
///Woman have Kitchen Caves! :P

:slap: This is old fashioned and unnecessary in most modern households. Either that or you are married to very strange women (or getting married to one). Most of us would like that stuff in the normal living areas. (Especially the beer on tap.)

Your thinking that women belong in the kitchen is your own opinion - but thinking that we actually want to be there - well that is just wrong. :twisted: I would venture that you are marrying the wrong woman, he-man. Methinks the kitchen will become your domain ;-)

and the more women you marry the less chance you have of a man cave.

check this video out

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14923750

my room where i have the PC can be considered more or less a man cave - i still have some grandiose plans as to how im going to finish it ie big screen TV instead of a PC monitor and some wall mounted speakers etc - should be interesting when its completed - heres a pic of how the PC rack looks for now - this will all change soon enough

Image

the lounge could also be considered a man cave and i have some plans for this as well ie projectors with retracting screens etc

Hopefully with your redesign of that PC stand you will not have the speakers and a turn table on the same flimsy platform....

My room is also a mancave.
It houses my /b/attlestation.
It also has an en-suite bathroom and it's own access outside. Plus a fridge.

Will take pics tonight.

Oh Tribble, to come back to your rare but fun rant.... The setup of a secluded spot gives you the privacy when you just need your space. You should know by now that it is one thing a marriage actually needs. If you are constantly in each other's hair it makes things unbearable to live with after a while. Also your hubby has a Man Cave :P And you don't seem to actually have much of a problem regarding it.

part of the plan eventually :wink:

BTW the turntable wont be staying there - it is intended for the main setup once i work out the space for it :wink: - also thats a cheapie temporary turntable - it cost me only R300 and its around 20 years old and the stylus for it costs R170 and an original pioneer cartridge is R500 so its unlikely that im ever going to replace one of those ever again but i will probably get a better turntable soon enough - i have access to some brand new entry level units from SOTA and Pro-ject or maybe even REGA and i will probably use an Ortofon cartridge and stylus with whichever new one i get

besides that PC rack isnt as flimsy as you think - its not one of those cheapie chipboard thingies and its stronger and far more stable than you would imagine :mrgreen:
Also naughty, you're missing one turntable... and a microphone
and the mixer too as well as slipmats on the turntable platters - problem is if i try any DJ scratching with that needle its curtains for the records and needles as well :P

i will probably get a pair of technics SL1200 turntables sometime and use the proper stanton DJ stylus on those and maybe relive some of my old days but there is software available that sorts it all out with mp3's and i still have fun with those

Oh I don't mind at all. And yes - you do need to get away from one another or it would not last. But what I am getting at is that it does not need to be just one room. You have seen the toys in the lounge - that we all enjoy. They can even be found in the bedroom. My point was that women do not necessarily see the kitchen as their Woman Cave. I have a wendy at the back of the house that houses all my paints and other "craft" supplies. In summer I go there to get away from it all. In winter it is too cold. We all need a quiet spot where we can relax and be alone.

Keeping the love of your life in a kitchen is sacrilegious.

I would agree there. I mean - guys don't keep their remote controls in the kitchen do they?

Nope but I have seen women that leave theirs in the lounge :roll:

Anything with batteries can be modified to work with a remote :P

And give someone else the control ? - I think not :lol:

Hehehe... you trust no one it seems :P

On a serious note... yes your cave is just as important as that of your hubby. You might want to be alone while he does not and not having a place to retreat to could cause all kinds of confrontations which could otherwise be avoided.

putting someone else in control means that you don't have to do all the work.... ;)

Mmmmm trust - that is a very tricky word. Besides - who says that work isn't fun or pleasant?
