A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

Know thine ene... errr, 'friend'.
Maybe he should get 'her' to register on the forums so that we may go through the 'vetting' process on his behalf?

Fixed that for you.jamin_za wrote:Am I really the type of guy who would sabotage a friend's budding relationship for a few laughs
A resounding YES! Who knows what you might not do for lulz? On the other paw, you most likely knew that I would find out the meaning of the word before using it in conversation with her - or any of the other people with whom I am conversing.

Either way you pick up a bird.
Although basing a relationship on a lie isn't the best way to go about it. Then again I carry a lighter around to give a light to girls that smoke, despite that being a false pretense and the fact that smoking is disgusting.

I'm not too keen on lying either-and a most unconvincing liar.

Then how about I reword it to:
Bird Seed = Favors .

Re: How to meet the girl of your dreams
Now that could probably work. Add some rigorous physical activity and you would be spot on.
Women choose men for very different reasons. I have tried to make sense of it but the logic eludes me. I can only tell you that in the beginning women are driven by their feelings - almost an inner voice. That voice is not always right but they get what they need from that relationship. When women are younger - they look for excitement. Someone that makes them feel tingly inside. Takes their breath away. Hence the attraction of bad boys. These boys know how to make a woman tingle. Just with a look, or a smile or in some other way. The danger is what attracts them. Now I am not talking super bikes danger (though don't rule that out) - I mean the emotional risk factor. Guys who have been with many girls are risky. They could break your heart at any time. And it is a challenge to see how long you can hold onto him and it is flattering that he chose you over all the other girls. A horse that needs to be broken before you can say he is yours. This is why I think girls go for the bad boys. I could be wrong.
As girls mature (and have done the breaking thing) - they want to look for an equal. Someone that makes them tingle on a different level - whether intellectually or emotionally depends on the woman. That is why the typical "Geek" would do better with an older woman than a younger one. Not too much older though but that is just opinion. You need someone that looks beyond the exciting and wants a friend/confidant/companion. But still someone that excites them (although differently). Now the following is just speculation: Those of you struggling to find the type of woman you want are probably looking at the under 25 age range. Try above - by then most women have matured and are above the bad boy attraction line (though some are never able to give up that addiction).

I have read dozens of profiles of those for which OKCupid has calculated a high "friend" score. Judging from their essays, I don't seem to be what they are looking for though. Most of them want someone who is ambitious, self-sufficient,articulate,well educated, stable, intellectual. etc. Maybe this is why I have never had a lady friend - or am I aiming too high
as usual? Am I perhaps misrepresenting myself? Maybe I should post my profiles essays here and see what you think.

Re: How to meet the girl of your dreams
Ok.....here goes nothing.....
My self-summary
I am one of over six billion [and counting] bipedal primates scuttling over the surface of a minor rocky planet orbiting a yellow dwarf in the outer reaches of an unexceptional spiral galaxy, one among billions of such agglomerations of matter [most of it exotic and mysterious] in the observable universe. I do not believe [as the above should make clear] that we occupy any special position in space and time or that homo sapiens is any more remarkable than any other creature, both extinct or extant, however much our disproportionaly large brains may seem to set us apart. Knowledge, and technology, without wisdom and responsibility can be a dangerous thing. But I digress. Barring my love of gadgets, I prefer to live a fairly uncomplicated life and am no slave to the whims of fashion and - sometimes - popular opinion. I am here looking for friendship, as the hours I work, my lack of a car, and reserved nature makes it difficult for me to find people with similar interests, especially in the small and fairly conservative city I live in.
What I'm doing with my life
The work I do is seldom more than moderately challenging, but I prefer it that way, as I believe in encountering as little stress as possible at work-something that is merely a means to an end and not the axis of my life. I have worked for the same company for more than ten years and am exploring various avenues in IT, though I am still not sure what my forte is. Outside of work, I try to enjoy life as much as possible, whether that be in the form of reading, playing computer games, daydreaming, listening to music, visiting or going out with my family of friend or spending time with domestic animals. I don't believe that life is worth taking too seriously.
I'm really good at
I am a good listener, can usually finish the greater part of any crossword puzzle I attempt, am a fair cook and can walk for miles once I put my mind to it. If there is something I feel strongly about, something I think is worth doing, I don't accept defeat easily unless I have re-evaluated that pet project and have concluded that it is not in my best interests.
Favourite books, movies, shows and food.
Books: Primarily science fiction and fantasy, both comic and serious, with a smattering of military history, history and development of languages, genetics, prehistory, astronomy and modern physics [provided that the scary maths is kept to a minimum.] Anyone wishing to discuss the literary merits of a given volume with me will be disappointed though.
Movies: I am no film-critic, and am easily seduced by expensive but often superficial CG work. My tastes tend towards fantasy and science fiction one again, though I also enjoy James Bond and even, given the right mood and movie, the odd romantic comedy.
Shows: Cats, if by "shows" we mean "theatre" Our public broadcaster does not show much that is worth watching. I have enjoyed "The Big Bang Theory". On DVD, I have watched series such as "Absolutely Fabulous", "Will and Grace", "The Thin Blue Line", "Blackadder" "Black Books" and "Keeping up appearances"
Music: Bach, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Grieg, Elgar, Holst; The Beatles, ABBA, Kate Bush;certain film and computer game soundtracks.
Food:I like to try new and sometimes exotic dishes when I eat out.
The six things I could never do without
Mental stimulation
Gadgets
The internet
My library
Coffee
Dopamine and seratonin
I spend a lot of time thinking about
From the age of 9 or thereabouts, I have spent a fair amount of time ruminating over the nature of the universe we live in, and what meaning we might hope to extract from our ephemeral existence. I often question about my motivations and reasoning and am not disinclined to doubt my sanity from time to time.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit
I'm not as smart as I like to think I am [or as some of my colleagues have made me out to be] Hence I have often overestimated my ability to tackle certain material or tasks.
I enjoy giving and receiving hugs.
