Bwahahahahah Ronny was never going to give the Thanks button - and he would not give those unless the mag requested it
Re: Inluding a "Thanks" button into the forum.
Ron, please may we have a Tweet-To-Share and +1 buttons? It wouldn't necessarily impact the social structure of the site, cause awkwardness and/or rivalry and/or petty immature behaviour. What additional coding is needed? How many plug-ins are available that do this?

Re: Inluding a "Thanks" button into the forum.
Can I ask why we would need these features? Who would you be tweeting-to-share that is not already on the forums? Why would you want to +1 a forum post to a bunch of people that never use our forum? Granted it may bring in more visitors but I am curious as to why you would think the forum needs these features? As with the thanks button give a compelling reason and us old farts will shoot it down .

//Anky: RRF is your age and Huggy Bear is just a tiny bit older than you so that makes you also an old fart....
all these buttons just make the people more lazier to type out the things that they wanna say...
just requote what the person said... or +1 the post or just post "thank you"... it's doesn't take that long to type...

Why don't the old farts go back to telnet BBS's then? Social networking integration on forums is not uncommon although not widespread and stumbleupon, digg, etc links are also available on a huge number of forums.

Um, did you just call jamin "Huggy Bear"? Awwwwww jammy, THAT'S JUST ADOWABUBBLE!!!
But seriously, it would save me and bunch of typing when I want to share something and... uh, that's about it; pretty much what kk said. It was a humourous post, but I guess it at least gets the Twitter and G+ button questions out the way.

That's exactly it. All they would do is save some members a few keystrokes. "Thanks", Twitter, G+, Fb, whatever - I don't think that they're worth implementing.KatrynKat wrote:err... i'm against the buttons...

Re: Inluding a "Thanks" button into the forum.
I'm with Anakha and WonWon on this one. This is however going to go like the sidebar issue. Although no one really misses it and gets along very well without it it will be brought up again... and again.... and again... every 3 months or so in a new thread. But people please believe me when I say this. We have discussed the whole thing regarding +1/like/twitter/fb button thing just as much as we have discussed the whole sidebar thing and it is simply not gonna happen unless there is a good enough reason. And saving someone a key combo such as ctrl-A & ctrl-V is not a good enough reason. There is already a quote button. Also why do you want to propagate the forum through to FB and twitter ? There is nothing good about either of those two in any case.Anakha56 wrote:Can I ask why we would need these features? Who would you be tweeting-to-share that is not already on the forums? is a farce. it's a term hammered to death by media pundits who think toasters are in charge. it has been evidenced in multiple independent studies that the conceited masses of dimbulbs pushing and using "social networking" are, in actual fact, anti-social shut-ins with the all the social graces and competence of a banana...Bladerunner wrote:Social networking

On the subject of social networking - what are these buttons supposed to 'do'?

You can still do that. I would assume you are a user that actually knows how to use a web browser as you do frequent on a technical forum and such. Use tabs....
