Re: Matric Dances...
@ Tribz no she was not a blow up doll. Its a sad story...
Basically it involves my dad asking his friends daughter if she was doing anything that night... See back then I was super shy around girls and strangers, could not talk to a soul who I did not know. It was due to her and a few other females in my life that changed me to who I am today. If I could I would love to buy them all a gift to say thank you but sadly I have lost contact with them all...

Ok - so you've got your partner, now all you two need to work on is what to wear and how to make an entrance?
Can anybody help with these?

Agree with Trouble you need to be smart not a bottom. Try to get something that fits your personality, mine was a black tux with a burgundy shirt and a black tie.
@trouble thanks . It's all cool though it made me a much better person. Hell I will be honest that night was the first time I had ever had close contact with a female while dancing, hand on butt and all *sigh*.

Re: Matric Dances...
My mother and father drove us in our brand new hyundai accent My dad went with to occupy the passenger seat else it would be awkward. Mom had to have the camera ready and take like 20 photos at my dates house and all the usual embarrassing mother stuff.
(speaking of which, for a laugh, I'll see if I can find those photos and post them, if my wife didn't throw them away.) From school we went with friends in their cars to a club, "Jamies" at the time until 330 opened then partied there 'till just before the sun came up. Then we walked to North beach to have an arranged champagne breakfast while watching the sunrise at "The Deck".
It was romantic, except that my date left early with some other guy from the club and I ended up having another girl who was my friends date. That story stays in the club by the way.
So by that time, soberness wasn't an issue and having a swim in the sea seemed like a logical decision. I honestly don't remember how I got home or what happened after that. Not because of alcohol, it was just that long ago.
There, I hope my matric dance story helped you learn something. Let me know when you know what it is.

Re: Matric Dances...
lol @mousey - you should have gone - it would have been a memory.
@Synth - sorry she went off with someone else, that is really poor form. But you have fun anyway
Guys - you do know that not all girls go to their farewells hoping to sleep with a guy hey? Some are just going to have an awesome night that ends with a kiss - nothing more. I have listened to a lot of guys talk about how they are going to "do it." I had many friends who did it behind trees, cars and walls. I guess these days things are a little different but just know you may be disappointed if the girl is not looking for the same thing. It also puts a lot of pressure on the guy if this is not what he wants - but feels that it is expected of him. Perhaps it is something that needs to be discussed before the event. If you cannot discuss it - then don't do it. Your relationship is simply not at that level then. People do many things in the heat of the moment - and sometimes the regret lasts a lifetime. I had a female friend who fell pregnant after her farewell. She had been accepted in a student exchange program for a year, was top of the class in all subjects. She had to change her plans and work as an admin clerk on the mine. Luckily things have worked out and they are happily married, have wonderful sons (the one just turned 21). But she did have to give up her dreams - and he did too.
Just bear this in mind

I had no interest in dancing, alcohol or headmaster speeches. The only possible attraction was the meal, but I could eat good food for less at just about any restaurant in Joburg at the time.
All in all, it didn't seem to be a sensible move to go.

Re: Matric Dances...
I really had a lot of fun at mine. I also learnt a valuable lesson (not that I implement what I learnt) Don't mix your alcohol.
Re: Matric Dances...
I stayed at home to play Quake IV.
I can't say I regret it either.

Re: Matric Dances...
That is one touching story Tribble. I have not thought of "doing it" - I'm not that kind of person. I've learnt my lesson about relationships and maybe the way to go would be to go with someone I know but don't really know...Does anybody know what I mean?
