My new GPU - overclock - Im a tad noob

Hi all

I bought the following:

Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII/2DI/1GD5 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU

Engine Clock 830 MHz
CUDA Core 384
Shader Clock 1660 MHz
Memory Clock 4000 MHz ( 1000 MHz GDDR5 )

Initially I thought I was buying:

Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU

Engine Clock 900 MHz
CUDA Core 384
Shader Clock 1800 MHz
Memory Clock 4200 MHz ( 1050 MHz GDDR5 )

It's the same GPU, same Cooling solution just different clocks

Can I rectify my mistakes by using msi afterburner and clock my GPU up to the same level as the 'TOP' card???

Is it as easy as that?

Thanks so much

Short answer: YES

Just keep an eye on the temps, but can't really see that being a problem.

Only difference between these two cards is that the TOP version comes overclocked from the factory (saves you the trouble of doing it yourself). You'll probably find that they have more or less the same maximum speed that you can overclock to in any case.

Ask The_Jelly, he runs the same card as you, but in SLi.

You can get your core to 1ghz dude! That's your "engine clock" overclock it to the a nice stable clock where your temps aren't out of control.

Yup! Got mine to 950core 2300mem stable on 1.1v can hit 1ghz core easy just watch ur temps... At 1020 core 2350 mem I get round 82 degrees.... But I only use that for benching and its not 100percent stable.... Need any advice. Just shout... Its the exact same card as the top dude and for much cheaper that's y I got 2 of these instead of the top.... Make sure u make a good fan profile in afterburner....

Oh and if u want to reach the TOP card clocks only u can reach them on stock voltage. Just raise the clocks respectively and click apply... Tenps shouldn't even change much...

For the moment I'm gonna go with the TOP clocks but Im sure I'll try push it a little further later on...

Will repost for further advice

Thanks guys!

I've heard that OCing your memory doesn't do much for performance. This true?

Im also planning on buying 2 of these cards, nice to know they OC well.
@ Jelly - Are the fans loud on these cards?

I've got the msi Twin Frozr cards, which I think would probably OC a little better (don't quote me on that), but I'd get these simply to stick to the Asus branding, as I have the Rampage III Extreme. :D

Some people claim that OCing adds noticeable speed increases. I buy stock or factory overclocked and leave it at that. If I already hit the 60fps ceiling then no use to do anything. I need to get that S23A950D for the 120hz! Anything over 45fps is good, 30+ fps is fine and less than 30fps is just wrong. So if overclocking gets it going over 30fps or even 45fps then why not?

The only games that will still benefit from OCing a SLied 560 Ti is Metro 2033 and Crysis 2 under the new DX 11 patch.

@Brad: the 560's fans are loud if u push the fan speed to 50 - 60% but that's not really needed so in reality they're quiet:) sorry I'm answering for u jelly:)

The fan speed with the 560s isn't too bad. Unless your case is basically standing on your desk next to your screen, they shouldn't bother you too much. And if you're using a headset, you won't hear them at all.
