Hi I just installed Linux for the first time and cannot get an answer on Google. How can I listen to RSG and radio Jakaranda? I use 11.04. Thanks

How do you listen to these stations on Windows? Do you install a browser, go to their streaming website and listen from there?
Perhaps try that, but in Linux this time...

You need to manually build a radio card and install it. Then you need to code firmware and install that to the card. Then you need to code the software and install that.

Or install Firefox/Opera/Whatever browser and navigate to the streaming link

Alternatively, buy a cheap radio and put it next to your PC.

The original poster's question is valid, as some radio stations use Windows Media Player technologies for online streaming purposes, and I can't imagine that those would play ball with Linux. I have not listened to local radio stations on streaming audio for many years (indeed I haven't listed to local radio at all for many years, but that's an entirely different topic), but I remember 5FM's streaming being WMP-based in my high school years (around a decade ago... :P )

I'll check out those two radio stations when I'm home. May be able to provide a better answer then.

The OP would also do well to just go read what's written on the darn radiostation's website.

RSG has a nice little link for Linux users...
AFAIK this is also relevant to Highveld 94.7 (Primedia?)
