Mitsubishi EVO Gets the Axe

www.autoguide.com wrote:Mitsubishi EVO Gets the Axe, No Replacement Planned Says Mitsu Product Boss

The Mitsubishi Evo series will not continue into its eleventh model, says Gayu Eusegi, global product director. He may as well have kidnapped Santa, in the minds of rally fans everywhere.

“There is still a demand,” says Eusegi, “but we must stop.” Why? Because, he says, Mitsubishi will concentrate on smaller and more environmentally-friendly cars such as the Global Small Concept, the supermini that will compete against the Toyota Aygo. In addition, Mitsubishi is going all out on EV technology by introducing eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015.

By cutting out their motorsport heritage, Eusegi said that customers would find it “easier to understand” what Mitsubishi was about. The company pulled out of the World Rally Championship in 2005, anyway, and there’s no room for big-winged dirt heroes in their continuous quest for lowering CO2. And yes, that means no diesel Evo, either.

So prepare yourselves for the end of an era: no more Tommi Mäkinen editions, no FQ400 models with turbochargers the size of cantaloupes, and no more need for Ralliart other than a nifty tire and wheel package. At least Subaru fans will rejoice that they’ve “won” this battle with the STI, though they’ll come around to the realization that fevered competition is better than no competition at all.
They are going to stop making probably the best 4 cylinder car of all time because they want to compete with Toyota - the most boring brand in cars of all time - in the eco-bullshiat market :?:

Up yours, Mitsubishi!

Saddest news I've heard all day....

This is sad! :(

Mitsubishi EVO vs Subaru WRX. always a thriller and now there will be no more rivalry between these two great cars.

That sucks!

Ok this is not a Scooby thread but whenever an EVO is mentioned a scooby is in short drag behind it....

GreyWolf: That is one stunning design. Especially coming from Subaru. In the past they have tended to lean towards the minimalistic and their newer designs has really evolved in terms of comfort and styling.

Drove in a 2011 STI a week ago and I have to note that the ride is much more comfy than the previous models. You still feel the road beneath you but it is not bone breaking and uncomfortable any more.

The 2.5 litre engines in the Evos and Scoobies are actually very fuel efficient compared to what most of Americans are driving.

So no, the tree huggers shouldn't be celebrating this.

+1 pump a 1.4l engine into a car that weighs about 2 tons and you will not get any kind of fuel economy let alone get the car rolling. Fuel economy and emission gases has more factors to it than just the size of the engine.

You guys are missing the point here.
It's not so much the loss of an overrated fanboi car, than the message sent out by a big car manufacturer.
I still say win for treehuggers.

Yea, you cannot even begin to comprehend my hatred for all these bleeding environmentalists and all the Hitler on wheels creations(ie Hybrid, electric......cars)

I think Jeremy Clarkson should appointed to decide what gets produced and what does not......The Prius would not exist then :D

At least there's some other goodies still being made by other manufacturers. For example the Focus RS which has way more horsies prancing under the hood (pity it's FWD :( ).

I'm seriously considering buying an Evo 10 since this year may be my last chance to get one new.

Just need to overcome the issue of 30% of my salary going to pay my car every month...
