I dunno about better - but it might be a little faster. What are the clock speeds on the MX440 and the FX5200?

Hmm, it's a known fact that although they both are advertised with a 350mhz clock the fx5200 only push 270. I have a mx440 lying around. I'll do a swap quickly and post the results.

the only reason why a person would by a 5200 is a tight budget, directX9 and the pixel and vertex shaders, that they would

GEFORCE 4MX 440  270MHz & 350MHz

FX52000  250MHz & 300MHz....

Dont trust your life on these results cause they come from an excel document containing hundreds of cards. It also says the FX 5200 gets 34.4 and the Geforce 4 MX gets 37.6fps in UT2k3 at 1024x768....

Of course it all depends on whether you have the 64bit or 128bit FX5200, cause if you have the former, the figures are even worse...

Well the MX440 I have on at the mo is on it's standard setting (No overclocking) so I would say a 5200 is defenitely a ripoff.

We were in Menlyn today while waiting for something we quickly checked into a fiew computer shops and they sold 5200 for up to R1900. Now that is what I call a ripoff in any sence of the word.

Ok, I'm trying to run the test with the mx440 but it only runs one or two tests and then the scrren goes blank. The whole system seems to freeze. Any ideas?

Driver issue.

Where I have another issue with the one in my rig.

If I put it in an boot my rig it comes up with an out of memory for option roms error. Any Ideas on how to fix this?

Well i'm using the latest forceware driver. I have even reverted back to 53.03 but nada. And I installed dx9 again. Niks, nada. It only happens with 3d mark though.

i have a FX5600XT 128MB with a 1.8 GHZ Celeron and 384MB DDR266 and i get 1385 on 3D MARK '03, is that ok?

I am looking to upgrade to a 2.8 Ghz P4 with 512 DDR400 Dual channel and AGP 8x MB.

Do u recommend a Graphics upgrade aswell?

Depends on what you are after:

1. Being able to play the latest kick bottom games -> Propably no
2. Having a killer of a system to admire for hours -> Defenitely

But with a decent CPU and MEM you shouldn't have a problem.

Oh yeah I forgot that mem of mine is Registered memory.

whats the diff between Registered mem and sumthing else?

Registered memory handle large amounts of memory more effecient than unregistered. It also has error checking etc. if I'm not mistaken.

registered memory refresses itself whereas the normal memory needs CPU interferrence in order to refres and thus takes up some valuable clock cycles.

That sounds about right - what res / settings was this on?

It was on the default 1024 settings. I'm thinking of getting a 9800 pro for my next card. How much better is it campared to the 9600xt anyway and how will it increase my score? :?: How much does it cost, round about? :?:

By how much will my 3DMark2001 points increase if I overclock mu CPU by 250mHz? :?:

AMD ATHLON 64 3400+
SIS 755-A MOTHERBOARD
768MB DDR 266
GE FORCE FX 128 MB
WIN XP HOME
Am I the only on here who noticed this guy is using DDR266 ?!?!?!?!?!

Dude, get rid of that $hit and get some DDR 400! And I mean RIGHT NOW!

Also lose the 5200, it should actually be illegal to put that card in a machine such as yours! at the very least get a GeForce FX 5700, but rather an FX5900 or Radeon 9800Pro.

Then see your 3D Marks shoot through the roof!
