Make a bootable backup of your entire Windows system with Shadow Copy Cloner. If you're hit by a virus, or your hard drive crashes, then you can just plug in your backup disk and get on with your day. SCC uses the Volume Shadow Copy Service so that it can clone files currently in use by the system, allowing you to keep working while the backup runs. Not that you would have to wait very long anyway, because SCC only copies the files that have changed since your last backup. It also saves permissions, so you can boot from your backup without worry

Shamelessly copied from ZDNet anddefinitely worth the money you pay for it

Wow, that's pretty epic.

I'm an Acronis True Image user, which is like Ghost on steroids, but I don't believe it can do bootable copies though. Awesome!

Right to update this thread for some people...

You can get a free copy of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum KungFu Edition from now until May 31st. I've never used this product before but I know a lot of you are looking for a way to back up your DVDs and the price is right.
We are specially running the giveaway in this summer movie season. This program is able to backup your summer DVD movies to AVI, WMV, MP4, H.264 for playing on popular media players, iPhone, iPad, PSP, etc. It also works as a digital backup tool which can help you clone DVD to ISO, copy DVD to hard drive with original Video and original 5.1 Channel AC3/DTS Dolby Audio within 5 minutes.

This looks like one of those dubious sites to me.

I think it would be a boon for the more cash-strapped among us of there was at least one digital distribution website that [legally] sold older versions of non-gaming applications software.
Do you know of any such place?

Before I forget again:

The Daily Freebie

Intel gives you a free cloning software powered by acronis for when you clone your drive for an ssd.

Was relatively painless... except that my monster PC hated a hard drive in it so I had to make its port hot swappable.

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>.

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!
while the download requires no id and the serials, by all appearances, work the fact is adobe is not calling this a freebie give-away...

There's an official quote by Adobe Systems that was made hours later that made no mention of that fact that downloading the software and using the key was illegal. In their own words, "this may be interpreted as giving out software our for free, but it was really done for our existing customers."

So its pretty much free now.

And the codes worked. I had CS2 on my old laptop - now I have it on my new laptop.

For any Windows 8 user who has been bitching about the Metro UI, giveawayoftheday.com is offering Start Menu X Pro today only for free. Kinda like Stardock's Start8, but free. For today. Only.

Note: This is not the place to resume the Metro UI bitching. If you want the app, grab it. If you hate Windows 8, tell someone who cares. Somewhere else.
