I'm starting to see a pattern here.
So, again, how is this different to what we have already said, apart from you grabbing some voltages out of thin air?

Maybe I/we were being vague. The question wasn't what would be required. Most of us (well, ok, some of us) are technicians/engineers or have technical backgrounds on enough pc components to know what would be required. As for it being simple- in the relative terms of building psu's, it can't be much more complicated, seeing as we're not talking about new technologies at all. And neither is merging these techs anything new.

The question was why it isn't being done.
To which I currently have no answer

I did look at the link. While it's technically what we're on about, it doesn't quite strike me as a pc part. I could be wrong though. It seems rather specialized to the industrial market.

Current PSUs go for around R200/100W. UPSes are also not THAT expensive.

So you have two cheap parts, relatively speaking. connected by a third, unneeded part- the circuit switching 12v dc to 220v AC and then back to 12v (and others) dc.
Now part of that circuit resides in the psu, part in the ups... I'm starting to feel like a repeat performance
