Julian Assange Could Face Death Penalty in the US

A defense attorney for WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange claims that his client could face the death penalty if he is extradited to Sweden, and that country then passes him on to the United States.

The assertion was made in a 35-page document released on Tuesday, which forecasts the arguments Stephens intends to make in a London court next month when Assange’s trial continues. Assange is wanted for questioning in an ongoing sex-crimes investigation in Sweden. He has not been charged formally with any crime in that country.

According to Stephens, extraditing Assange could violate the European Convention on Human Rights if the US tries to extradite him from Sweden.

In arguing his case that his client may face the death penalty, Stephens quoted right-wing US Politicians who have called for Assange’s execution.

Stephens, however, did not explain what legal authority the United States might use to seek the death penalty against Assange.

Since Swedish authorities have less backbone than a slug, and have turned out to be a pawn of the USA, they will probably extradite him.

The Americans are just confirming to the world that they really are, and always have been, a bunch of gun-slinging, self-righteous monkeys. You know they'll try and enforce the maximum penalty because their war crimes that they hid so well have been brought to light.

Last week a U.S. Justice Department court order was made public that directed Twitter to provide information on several of its users

Among the information demanded are names and user names, credit card and bank numbers, addresses, "connection records" (showing when they logged in and for how long) and telephone numbers.

Whether or not such a request is "right" it does appear to be legal and Twitter complies with legal requests as a point of policy.

Twitter did not like it and did not go quietly but i seriously dislike the fact that they can supoena one's Credit card and bank numbers!

The Sydney Peace Foundation has accused the federal government of "demonising" Queensland-born WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as it handed him its highest award.

The peace foundation presented Mr Assange a gold medal in recognition of his "exceptional courage in pursuit of human rights" at a ceremony in London on Tuesday.

It is only the fourth time in the organisation's 14-year history that the prize for extraordinary achievement in promoting peace with justice has been given out.
