GTX295 overheating

I have a GTX295 that as we all know runs hot at the best of times. Now that summer is here, I am occassionally getting a situation where during a game, the pc suddenly shuts down and restarts. No BSOD. It is as if the power has been cut. The PC the restarts.

I am attributing this to the Graphics card o/heating. What aftermarket cooling solutions can I consider to try and keep the temps down on this card. I already have an extra 120mm fan blowing outside air directly onto the card. It is not o/clocked, although the CPU is but it is running cool on a massive aftermarket cooler, so I am ruling it out.

Alternatively, what program can I use to adjust the cards fan speed to run a permamnent max during games. Will that damage the fan? Will be noisy I know!

Get a GTX480 :P

Can't you set the fan speed in the CCC? Also, I assume your card is perfectly clean? It is amazing what a little dust can do.

I'm seriously looking at the GTX480 :-) . Sorry not sure what the CCC is?

Do you know whare I can buy a GTX480 where I don't have to buy online - i.e. just walk in to a shop, pay my money and walk out with the card?

CCC = Catalyst Control Centre (ATI cards), but you have an NVidia card and I am an idiot.

Not that I know of, sorry. I am in central SA.

Edit: Have you tried RivaTuner?

what temps are your card running I have a gts250 that overheats the system dont shut off but the gpu scales down preformance, I use MSI afterburner to monitor gpu usage temps, I cleaned the cooler applied new thermal paste and still reaches 85C when gaming and 60 when sitting on the desktop, I am looking at a zalman vf900 is this cooler any good?

The GTX295 gets crazy hot when gaming. Mine is always over 100'C under heavy load like that, and that's with my side panel open and everything.

Water is probably your best bet. Let me know if I can help, I'll bring some great cooling stuff in for you if you like :) Drop me a PM :)

why cant you buy from an online shop....? its easier and cheaper than going to a shop to buy one... if u could find a shop to buy one...
you dont have to pay online... jus order the card then go to whatever bank they deal with and make a direct deposit very straight forward....
