hey guys, I've got a 9600gt with stock cooling.

what app is the best to use to check temps, and what is an acceptable temp range?
though not accurate, the heatsink gets fairly hot under load

Download Hardware Monitor.

And yes, the heatsink will get fairly hot. That is the part that is suppose to dissipate the heat.

Only 105, pfft.

My X1900 GT mangaged 115 degrees with the stock cooler, at that point it started clocking down to cool off. The fan only switched to 100% at 95 degrees.

yeah, i try to keep my temps BELOW boiling point

MSI Afterburner works for my GTS 250
The max of my GPU is 85 C is it is reached the FPS comes down for a few seconds.
I will say a normal temp for a 9600GT will be round about 60-75 C

ok, so I've got 41 on idle, 75 max
(used resident evil 5's bench, and created a 3dsmax model with 2million hairs)
my cpu is more worrying though, as min is at 40 and max at 99. fortunately my new cooler is in the mail...

99 C Max, That is too high, Pick up some thermal grees, Remove cpu cooler and apply new grees. Do you have a stock cooler

yip, I'm getting a deepcool iceedge 400, going to go check the mail now...

ok, iceedge is installed, hands are cut in a multitude of places(stupid case)
and.... (drumroll please) a massive 44c was shaved off load temps. idle temps stayed almost the same(3deg shaved off)
