Gearbox confirmed today that they have taken over the development of Duke Nukem Forever, and that it will be released in 2011.

OK, I take above post back - MyGaming is reporting on it, as are several other gaming website/blogs/yadda yadda.

But I have to ask why... the franchise is long dead, and I believe it should be left that way.

I saw some of the vids on gametrailers. They should rename it to duke nukem 3d remastered rather.

The franchise is not dead it is one of the greatest PC franchise of all time, yes the game has been in development so long most people have not been waiting for it since is was announcement. But it is still going to be a good game, after all it has been in development since 1997.

Yeah but didnt it change developer hands? Meaning the material isnt the same. And from the looks of the videos its all recycled stuff. The car part looks like Rage, the boss is the same one from duke 3d and then the desert scenes are a mixture of the 1998 and 2001 videos with the donkey, the mine cart chase and canyons.

Thats not logical. And if it was, it would still not be rational.

The original design was by 3D Realms. If Gearbox doesn't fiddle with the original design too much, it will be good.

No. Unless they take ALL of the work they've been doing on this game since 1675 and upgrade it to a brand new engine, it will release as an out-of-date, badly rendered piece of nostalgia.

I think they could do wonders with the game, given the Duke Nukem fanbase, but MAN they're going to have to pull finger in a massive way.

Waiting so long for Duke Nukem's new game, I loved Duke Nukem 3D, They will probably postphone the game release"Again"

hmmmmm ill wait till i see demos and gamepaly trailers to be excited for this release remember years ago this game was supposed to come out when and then BOOOOM!!! no more hype imo i need to see it on the shelves etc to really beocme amped for this title

AFAIK there were gameplay trailers out a while ago... then the deadlines got pushed and everything changed and every time they get to a point where they have something workable they want to include some new tech and then push the deadline back again.... until what we have now... Absolutely nothing with no release date.
