They are mostly dumb, but so is most of humanity. I do concede though that we sound pretty stupid with a thick Afrikaans accent when speaking English, hey Caffee?I'm not saying they're dumb
True.Stuart wrote:And I suspect you cannot really understand it either.jee wrote:i had nothing to do with that.... *sigh*
Just like us souties who try and speak Afrikaans, hey? I sound so pretentious - but then that is how I sound in English too ROTFLMHOKALSTER wrote:They are mostly dumb, but so is most of humanity. Somehow you sound less stupid than we do and more pretentious as you say.Just like us souties who try and speak Afrikaans, hey?
You have a tinge of an aristocratic sound there do ya?I sound so pretentious - but then that is how I sound in English too ROTFLMHO
Yes - my mother was a speech and drama teacher - 'nuff said. I may sound pretentious - but I wouldn't change it for anything I have no problem with the Afr accent - but the pronunciation of words does bother me a bitKALSTER wrote:Or http://www.photobucket.com

I sometimes feel pretentious when I use good (or what I think is good) English, but sometimes you just want to get a more precise thought across.
Coming from someone who refuses to acknowledge the existence of his shift or caps lock keys, that's rich...rustypup wrote:don't you mean "tekkies"... i always imagined a "tak" was a stick or branch, depending on contextKatrynKat wrote:takkies
on a more serious note, i refuse to read intentionally bad language in much the same way as i refuse to read 100 word posts sans paragraphs... :/
And that is exactly why I joined the Afrikaans threadKALSTER wrote:Poor Katryn. I have seen much worse. Don’t sweat these bullies. Have a muffin!
On a side note, I am no longer used to reading Afrikaans. Reading long passages (like some posts in this thread) becomes tedious and slow quickly. How weird. I speak mostly Afrikaans in my daily life and usually fumble around with a word at some point whenever I get involved in a lengthy discussion with an English speaking person. On forums the opposite is true. English comes naturally and Afrikaans becomes a chore. I am slowly being turned into a salted rooinek!
have you never written or spoken in english en dan oorgeskakel na afrikaans toe en verder gepraat en dan kom jy op 'n punt wat jy dit ni meer in afrikaans verduidelik ni and then you go back to english....UrBaN wrote:Engrish and Africant in the same sentence? winneR!
