Re: The Series Thread

Post by KALSTER »

Watched through the Sherlock series. Brilliant stuff! I now have higher hopes for Star Trek 2 knowing Benedict Cumberbatch is in it. Also want to see The Hobbit more now. Martin Freeman is fully in my radar now. I can't wait for the new series! Even though I am somewhat familiar with the stories, the writers do a brilliant job of bringing them into a new era without losing any of the charm, while still managing to surprise you.

Also watching through Dr Who. Must say, I wasn't a David Tennent fan in the least, but he fit perfectly as the Dr Doctor, even though I always loved the old Doctor from the books more. Still getting used to Matt Smith. Billy Piper is probably the closest thing to a female human troll guy you'll ever see with those chompers of hers! :) Still my favourite companion though. Wonder if Bad Wolf will come back later on. Hope so.

:D You will love his current companion - she is fun and "different". Not to mention pretty. I am still getting used to Matt Smith too - but then I was a Tennant/Eccleston fan

Be warned with Dr Who though. It is written more for a younger audience, even though people often die. :? The science is mostly nonsense, has some really ridiculous aliens etc, but I loved a stack of Dr Who books growing up and got hooked early on in the series.

Started watching American Horror Story Asylum Season 2 and I am loving it! So different from the first, but even better! The whole show is incredible, production, acting, cinematography...it does almost feel like you are watching one long horror movie...

anyone been watching Elementary - its an interesting modern twist on the Sherlock Holmes theme with a Dr. Joan Watson as his companion during his adventures

its not too bad if you follow it from the beginning and it grows on you as it goes along

I like it too. The show does nothing new in terms of formula (very much like House, except with crime), but it is put together very well.

The thing is, I like all of those shows too. So why break something if it isn't broken?

At least it has a real literary origin where the main character exhibits those properties.

because they're all telling the same story using the same characters... it's about as broken as it gets... may as well watch reality shows or, FSM forbid, top gear...

from my shady recollection, holmes was far more eccentric than sociopath...

I started watching "Workaholics" the other day, it is quite the zany comedy and can be very random at times, but I must say I am rather enjoying it...

Yep, though I'm playing catch up on Californication. Still somewhere in season 5. Tbh S5 isn't as good as the previous seasons. Hopefully it gets better.
