Ok so let's raise the stakes a little. R50 000 more should give some leeway.

This is not about me but since you just made it about me lets hit it. Seeing as I have an overdraft the bank does not want to give me the financing for the Mito. Would have loved to have it though. Problem is the crock I am currently (actually used to) ride in blew a head gasket earlier this week. So I am without a ridenaughty wrote:do you now want to buy a secondhand car - also id change the upper limit to R250k merely because between R150k and R200k you would just get the same cars (just only slightly newer but still second hand anyway)
most worthwhile brand new cars to me are all beginning to hit close to the R300k mark nowadays generally though North of that most of the time
if the limit was R250k i would be giving the new Renault Megane coupe a good look
this is one of the natural competitors to the Alfa Mito you were getting - and it looks like a really nice car (as does the Mito ..... have you changed your mind on that) - the Renaults base price is around R240k but im sure some extras would boost that substantially though
if i had R300k to play around with i would definitely wait for the new Polo GTI (due around august/september) - get it with all the extras minus the satnav - that should actually take it above the R300k mark but at that price it will still be around the best new car to have in its class IMHO - since the golf 6 GTI with all the extras has now gone closer to around R400k .... anyways this particular paragraph is moot cause the cars in it are above your projected pricerange and are also more the type of cars I like, not the type you would like
i remember that but it thought that they would sort you out the financing if you sorted out the O/DSeeing as I have an overdraft the bank does not want to give me the financing for the Mito.
yep - i think its a brilliant little carWould have loved to have it though.
sorry to hear that - i know what its like to not have a car to move around with - its a real pain in the anatomy even if its only for a couple of days - so i hope you come right with a good car .... its amongst one the greatest feelings in the world to be driving a brand new car after suffering at the hands of a crock (my old citi golf was heading that way before i got my Polo and now my Polo is giving me immense satisfaction to drive .... moreso since since it is still newish and only has 47k km's on the clock)Problem is the crock I am currently (actually used to) ride in blew a head gasket earlier this week.
sorry - i thought it was since you were in the market for a new car - apologies for thatThis is not about me

a french car? seriously?naughty wrote: if the limit was R250k i would be giving the new Renault Megane coupe a good look
I hear what you are saying, all I am saying is that there are options, like third party warranties, which from what I have seen are no more or less hassle than factory ones.naughty wrote:hey Greywolf - on the surface of it those second hand cars may look like bargains but to be honest i would never ever buy second hand ever again
i say this and ive personally owned over 12 cars over my entire life so far (kept some of them over 6 years from brand new) ..... and i will never ever buy a second hand car as long as i live unless it was from a mate who went bankrupt two days after he bought the car and was desperate to sell at half the price
+1 except that they'd be left hand drive?Frozenfireside wrote:I would import myself a Honda Integra from the united state of Japan.
Might hunt down a RHD but it´s a sick car that I know is brilliant.SykomantiS wrote:+1 except that they'd be left hand drive?Frozenfireside wrote:I would import myself a Honda Integra from the united state of Japan.
I would buy a Honda Accord, or a BMW.
LOL - you are reminding me of that guy on "deadliest catch" on discovery channel who saidAn 1100 UNO and lotsa beer....
actually though a new mini probably wont be out of reach on this budget - how much is one of those "John Cooper works" editions nowadays - that probably has a bit of sting to the performance even if its a smallish carIgnoring the fact that you actually want a practical suggestion for a replacement car, I'd get a Classic (such as a mini) and fix her up
depending on condition and model, maybe between 2 and 40K? Anakha used to have one (didn't he?)naughty wrote:LOL - you are reminding me of that guy on "deadliest catch" on discovery channel who saidAn 1100 UNO and lotsa beer....
