Them CIAs been spying!
This is just weird.
My mom has a loft at her house. The stairs and indeed the entire loft are wooden, with cross beams supporting the floor.
I'm staying with her for the time being, as she doesn't want to stay alone right now - there's weird stuff going on in the complex.
Anyway this morning I wake up and I notice this red light on the underneath side of the wood which is the floor of the loft. There's a knot in the wood there, and it glows red every now and then. I went and checked upstairs to see if it could possibly be light shining through the knot and then glowing at the bottom, but the top of the knot is covered by a wooden PC desk, so no light is coming from above. That said, even if there was light from above, I highly doubt it could penetrate 20mm of wood.
I moved the wooden PC desk away and checked under it - no funnies there, it's standard.
I then started chipping away at the knot with a screwdriver and hammer (didn't have a chisel) and the light kept shining - didn't affect it at all.
I'm going to try get the knot out later to investigate further, but this is plain weird.
There's no alarm so it can't be a sensor. There's no smoke detectors or any other electronic devices which would either
a) have two lights (I'm guessing there's 2 LEDs in there), or
be placed INSIDE a wooden knot.
My thinking is that it is either radioactive dinosaur hatchlings, CIA spy devices, or it falls under the category of weird ****.
I have my tin foil hat being made as we speak.

Doesn't relate, just asking [OT]
It might be a light for chasing termites..is it a wood house ?

One of them is a termite sensor utilizing infra-red light.
This termite sensor consists of an infra-red light emitting part and a probe for detecting infra-red light. It makes use of a principle that, when a termite goes through between the infra-red light emitting part and the detecting probe of infra-red light, the infra-red light is interrupted to make lower output of the detector. In addition, with this termite sensor, since the number of interruptions can be measured, the number of intruded termites can be grasped.

Oh ok.
It's above, but it is within my mom's unit. There is a wooden loft above the kitchen area, which doubles as a bedroom due to being secluded and out of view. The light is within a knot in the wood, looking down at the lounge/kitchen. The place itself is concrete (brick & mortar), just the loft and stairs are wooden.

That would make sense. So I probably shouldn't remove it then eh?

It is the remains of the botched first attempt to send a terminator back in time.

Re: Them CIAs been spying!
Did you investigate this further? Is it indeed some insect repellent/detector?
No way I'd just let it be until I'm sure wtf is up with that.

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

Well, turns out to be nothing more than an infrared termite detector.
It's been off for a few days now... I think it may have been allergic to my hammer...either way, I'm not really fussed about it anymore, I just ignore it.
